My Sister was diagnosed when she was 16 she missed loads of school but managed to go to college at 19 part time then full time the following year. Landed a part time job at the age of 24 then a full time job at the age of 27. We were told she would be in a wheel chair by the age of 20. She defied the odds. I believe she just pushed herself. Don't get me wrong she's in pain most days but doesn't let it affect her life. She's now 33 and living a full life. I believe there is hope for you too :-)

there is a support group for people with Fibro in the Chronic Pain Forum. you'd be most likely to find out how people live with it, there. and you'd be welcome!

I know you posted this last summer, but I am new here, and wanted to reply. I have had fibromyalgia for 21 years. Prior to being diagnosed, I had a ton of energy. A great memory and was full of life. I must say that I was 33 when I was first diagnosed. At 22 I had to have a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. I encourage you to read everything you can. I like a couple of the websites out there, and there are more books on the subject. It is important to educate yourself. Doctor’s are aware of what fibromyalgia is, but many do not understand all the symptoms that come along with this disease. I made the mistake of taking the medicine that is advertised on television, and that is when my life took a turn for the worst. I could not remember anything, could barely talk, and only God knows how I made it to work as I often nodded on the freeway. I took myself off, but the damage was done. I still suffer 12 years later. It does get better, but you really need to take care of yourself. You must stay active, try not to gain weight, and eat healthy. Even when you feel your worst, slowly try to move. I find if I try to not sit that the more I can slowly move the better feel. Last, the best thing I can say, you must motivate yourself. No one else will. Don’t be surprised if people do not believe you feel as much pain as you do, that is why they call it the invisible illness.
