I am medical advocate for my ex. He became type 2 diabetic at age 30. He was mildly overweight, not exercising, and had had napalm exposure in Vietnam. Despite my warnings, he smoked until he was 50. We finally got him to stop with Chiantix and Wellbutrin. He has paid the price for bad habits, developing atherosclerosis, heart disease, and serious PAD, pain in his legs that required thigh to toe angioplasties.
Luckily for him, there have been a lot of advances recently in treating these issues. He has an insulin pump so he doesn’t have to inject himself, an armband monitor which alerts if his sugar goes too low or too high. They can now open up the arteries all the way from thighs to toe (angioplasties) to alleviate leg and foot pain from PAD, peripheral artery disease which can result in amputations. Don’t assume that leg and foot pain and numbness are from neuropathy. Those are often caused by PAD.. he had some vessels to his heart cleaned out. He also has a 3 yr heart arrhythmia monitor implanted in his chest. And don’t forget diet, exercise and foot care. Medical care for diabetics has advanced so much, but a healthy lifestyle are vital to preserve quality of life and further medical problems. __________________ Bipolar 2 with anxious distress mixed states & rapid cycling under severe stress tegretol 200 mg wellbutrin 75 mg, cut in half or higher dose as needed Regular aerobic exercise SKILLSET/KNOWLEDGE BASE: Family Medical Advocate Masters in Library Science Multiple Subject Teaching Credential-15 yrs in public schools |
