My severe hearing loss is causing me to face discrimination by a driving school. It cause me to feel really depressed, humiliated.

Buffy01 sorry you have been having difficulty getting training in driving.

A friend of mine saw how much driving a car costs with insurance, maintenance and such that they started riding a bicycle wearing a bright yellow vest. More power to them.

I'm sorry that's happening. I have a friend (but not a close one) who has severe hearing loss, but I don't know much about her life outside of the skype class. I have a moderate amount of hearing loss (at age 66). and I rarely wear my hearing aids. I think some people get irritated at me, but that's their problem.

This is yet another issue that needs to be dealt with as far as disabilities go.

I thought about getting a bicycle just so that I can around.

The school tried to say that in 2003 they didn’t know about my hearing disability when they known all along. Even the driving school was mortified that they were used by the driving school and the owner didn’t know the criteria of working with deaf people.

I have hearing loss in my left ear.

Years ago I went stone cold deaf. The doctors told me it was a cholesteatoma (tumor) but none of them seemed to be comfortable doing the surgery to remove it. After 3 months of searching, I found an outstanding doctor who operated soon after and implanted a titanium implant to restore my hearing.
I am now losing my hearing in that ear. My only option is surgery which is grueling and very painful. I don't know if I can make myself do it again.

I thought perhaps I might be a candidate for hearing implants. I recently found out that I am not. It would take away the rest of the hearing that I do have.

Mine is titanium. It replaced the small bones in my inner ear because they were distroyed by a cholesteatoma.
After the surgery I asked the doctor if I could see the pictures. I guess that's not a frequent request. Lol! The implant looks like a tiny ladder with the corners cut off.
I have noticed recently that my hearing is slowly deteriorating. My fear is that the tumor is back. I live near the Hough Institute. I just need to make an appointment.
Duh.

We believe that it was from the scaring of too many ear infections as a baby. I can’t get my driver license because the driving school discriminated against deaf drivers. They are the only one who teaches driving lessons.

OMG! No one has ever asked me about my hearing when getting a license. So do they discriminate against people with back pain? How about MS, ALS, or HIV? I'm guessing no. Just those who have problems hearing. Seems to me there should be legal help. They are in violation of the ADA.

Interesting. I had lots of ear infections as well, throughout my childhood. The doctors said that's what caused the cholesteatoma in my ear.

Yes they are in violation of the ADA law. But no one will take my case. My niece told them about my hearing disability when she had no right to.

I was deeply humiliated and was blamed for my hearing disability. I felt really horrible about myself.
