I take my thyroid supplement at 9am every morning. But since daylight savings is happening, do I have to change the time I take it? Will an hour's difference affect me if I don't have a thyroid? I know people here are not a doctor, but I'm guessing others have medicines they take every day and a specific time so I'm just asking what you guys do. I don't want my levels to go off. I'd call my doctor but it's the weekend, they are unavailable. And I didn't realize daylight savings was happening this weekend so I never called and asked during the week. I want to make sure I'm okay.

I couldn't find a clear specific answer when I did a google search. A lot of things I read said an hour won't affect most medications. But I need a more specific answer about Euthyrox and I just can't find what I'm looking for that answers my question.

Cinnamonsun,

I might have thyroid problems, so I'll likely be asking the same questions as you one day. Anyway, if it were me, I'd stick to the same time and adjust with the time change. REWORD EDIT: I'd stick with the 9 a.m. NEW TIME, and just be an hour off. That way, you don't accidentally take it an hour too early or two hours too late, or vice versa.

The problem occurs when our circadian rhythm is temporarily changed. If you wake up really early and can sleep in an extra hour or wake an extra hour, and then also fall asleep an extra hour earlier or later, depending, then you're good. But if you have to adjust your sleep time, that could also adjust everything else, even if you decide to eat meals an hour early or later, depending on what schedule you change with.

Sadly, disabled persons often get overlooked with things like this, so no one truly answers these questions online. Some people elect to go with the flow and take their pills an hour later, which most online "missed dose" claims state that it is okay to do so. But for specific diseases and specific drugs, it's harder to answer that question. It's unclear if even doctors would know the answer to that question, since they aren't the kind of pharmaceutical scientists who invented the drug. Doctors only know minimally about each drug they prescribe.

So, in addition to what I found for you online, you could also try calling the drug company directly, or calling your national poison control, since scientists are sometimes hired to answer those questions - and since your doctor likely looks up drug interactions and the like from those sources anyway.

I did a google search on your drug, specifically, and added "Euthyrox missed dose," since that sort of pertains to your question.

Here's what I found:

Drugs.com

Mayo Clinic

Dr. Ruscio blog

Paloma

WebMD

Alright! If there are any issues, I know my doctor will put me on the course to correct my levels. They really don't think about these things when they make these silly time changes. I didn't have to ask this question in the past, I developed my disease in 2019 so it's still a newer thing for me. I'm still waiting to get back in to see my Endocrine doctor. There was a problem with my insurance card which I called and fixed last week. So I will be seeing her soon. I have a lot of questions that only she can answer, I'm just waiting as patiently as possible.
