Well I wanted to find out if anyone else with DID has a child alter who does not act like the rest of the alters you have... Not just normal being a different personality, but actually acting like something is different with them? How is that even a possibility?

Throughout life the alters have come up here and there without me understanding why I was one way one time and another way only a short time later. When I found out I had MPD (now called DID) , it all made sense finally. One collection of personality traits did not belong to any of my known alters though. I finally have found a 5 yrs old boy who calls himself "Zachary" and has only said "I only 5 years old!" to me. That is it. My other child alter who is very bright and playful is 8 yrs old and she said Zachary lives under the stairs and hides and never plays at all.

These are traits I now believe are his:

1) Extream skin sensitivity - pain. It only happens once in a while and it is most painful when it occurs. As a child, I would rip off any labels on clothes. I could not stand anything with lace on it as it would "hurt" my skin. I also have two of four neices by my brother who are the same way.

2) As a baby, my mom said I did not like to be hugged at all. I am not like this today and my little one who is 8 craves being hugged. But when I went to give Zachary a hug, he shook his head "NO!"

3) When I hear music, there are many times I see shapes along with the sounds. It is amazing. But I can not do it all the time. Usually it is very far back in my mind - almost like an alter is seeing it. I asked Zachary this morning if that was how he sees music and he shook his head YES!

4) Sometimes if I am in conversation with someone - esp at a restraunt - I will "catch" myself just staring at a lightbulb. It is kinda unnerving and makes me feel real stupid. But it is like someone on the inside has been captivated by the lightbulb glow for some reason. This also happens in the movies at times and I will miss scenes and "wake up" with one of the alters looking at the ceiling or the projector lighting.

5) I have caught myself rocking back and forth while waiting for something just sitting. I am not sure if that is just me but it is something that I have done from time to time since I was a child. While trying to see who Zachary was - I did catch an image of him hiding under a stairwell in the mental house and he was just rocking back and forth. ??

6) Head banging. Ok now you folks know I do trust you all here! You already know my teen alter Mick is SI if she is in a bad mood. But there is something else that happens from time to time in my life. Usually it is when I have been exposed to people arguing. I will "wake up" standing next to a wall and going "oww!!" but not sure who did it. That was before I knew Mick was there. But head banging is not really Mick's style. It might be though.

Well my protective Alter told me to not worry about Zachary - yet. But I am just way too curious I think. So I wanted to post this and see if anyone has any input or experiences. Thank you in advance!!

A good many of my alters did not act like me or any of my other alters and had their own sensitivities, allergies, what they wore, how they spoke, physical ailments, mental problems. when i asked my therapsit why such diversity inside this one body of mine she said there is what usually happens. theres even a diagnostic criteria that says in order for me to be DID I had to have alters that were so much different than any of the other alters and also drastically different from me. then she pulled out her DSM IV TR book and showed me the diagnostic criteria about having distinct alters. After that I just accepted those drastically different alters as part of me and my dissociative system.
Thanks for this!
