That at bookstores, there aren't very many books on DID?
If you want a decent DID book, you have to get it online!
What's up with that??
Are we the only ones who've noticed this?

I'm guessing it's because DID is a very rare condition so not as many people would want to read about it. A lot of the psychology books are about things like depression because a lot of people are diagnosed with it so if you or someone you know has it you'd be more inclined to read about it.
Thanks for this!

It can be frustrating but then again there is a ton of good info online so it doesn't bother me so much.
Thanks for this!

Yes there are heaps of good books around on DID.

If you look at the top of the DID forum Sky and others have posted a heap of books/resources relating to DID.

If you cant find them in books stores then try ordering them online from Amazon.com which is an American based company.

I ordered a couple of books and didn't have to wait long before they were on my doorstep. I live in Australia.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, unless it's a huge bookstore there isn't much in psych in general. God forbid anyone has the guts to ask the clerk where the DID books are!

It disappoints me but doesn't surprise me.

Hi (Yeston) Erik,

Have you checked with the Library?
I actually checked out (5) books from the library last year on DID. It gave me amazing insight on this condition. I cried with relief of what I read. Because it was so much of what I was experiencing with my husband.

" Pardon me bookstore salesperson, could you direct me to books on D.I.D.? "

"Books on what?"

I imagine that is how the conversation would go most of the time! I have occasionally found books on DID at large Barnes and Noble stores. I just read them there...

if you find a book that you want to get at the book store you can ask the book store people to get it in for you. Ive done that alot since starting college. I just walk in and ask if they have this book. I dont make excuses or anything just walk up and ask like I was asking the grocery clerk where the soda isle is. they look on their computer and say yes that book is by a publishing company that they get thier supplies from how many copies would I like? and I say just one please. and about a week later I get a call saying my book is in. they dont ask any questions, they just take my name and phone number and call me when the book comes in.
Thanks for this!

Yep, I do the same as Amandalouise. If you know the title and author of the book you can go right up to the sales desk and ask them to order it for you. No awkwardness involved. I've bought several great books about DID that way. My local library stocks several great books about DID too, but strangely the university library has very, very little on the topic.
Thanks for this!

Erik, you are so funny. Research for a friend :>) I stopped going to bookstores when Amazon was invented. Used to love the bookstore, but they just don't have the selection. You could always just stand there and say "Now where did they put that book on ANGER MANAGEMENT!" That might get some help. (sorry - odd sense of humor)

It was titled "Got Parts?"
We forgot who it was by, but it was VERY good! We HIGHLY recommend it!
However, it said that "alters" like (Hill)Erik need to be 'locked up'.
let's just say, he's not too thrilled about that....

We're debaiting weather he should be locked up or not...
He's passed the test twice of being out all day without trouble..
still, we have to keep an eye on him.
