Ok, here goes. I dont usually like to discuus T sessions, but Im curious. T says we are gonna do something called "mapping" our next session. I kinda have an idea as to what this is but can anyone share with me what to expect? Its nothing we are gonna draw or anything so a lot of commotion inside, some good, some negative and one who seems to be taking charge like in a motherly way. Anyway I dont want to know too much detail about other's experience because i dont want anything to influence how we are gonna deal with this "mapping" thing. Im supposed to work on preparing inside for this which has us a little un nerved. too. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for this!

I have 2 T's working simultaneously w us for past 18 months. Both use mapping differently. One uses mapping for a time line of life, and as the
others come forward and new memories are noted, they are mapped out so I can see where things fit in my past. These are just memories, not good, not bad, just stuff. The other T uses mapping to sort of figure out a kind of heirarchy or how the 'family' works, who has what job. Its constantly changing but it gives T a foundation, albeit a flexible one, to work from.

Neither mapping experiences have been triggers for me, simply reporting factual stuff. Hope this is of some help to you.

Best of luck with your experience,
kp

mapping is just finding out what your internal system of alters is like. some therapists I had drew charts and diagrams others they asked questions about who's who, what their jobs are, what kinds of things they remember. other therapists I has did mapping right from the beginning my keeping track of whos who and stuff when ever I dissociated during therapy. I liked it that way because most of my guess work of who is who and what they do and what they remembered turned out to be different than who they really were, what their jobs were from their point of view and what things they remembered was also different cause there was very little co consciousness between all of us. So in a nut shell mapping is probably something you have already been doing if you have been telling your therapist about you and your alters. your therapist just didnt use the psychological term for it until now.

My T has been doing this for a while. In the beginning it was kind of scary for me because it felt like secrets were being told when she gave me information. It's getting better in that regard, with trying to keep in the forefront that T is safe. She has to be careful of what she tells or shows me on it though because sometimes the body is punished due to information being "spilled."

I hope it goes well (I'm sure it will). Please let us know.

Thanks Krazy, Amanda and Wanttoheal for the really helpful input. You all have pretty much confirmed what i thought and made this a lot less scarey. I will definately keep ya posted. Probably wont have much to get back on. Thinking its gonna be a slow start. lol But we're not put too much expectations into this mapping stuff. We've been trying to rush stuff lately and its been back firing terribly. At this moment tho, most of us are ok....most of us. Thanks again, once again proving what a great place and great folks that are here.
