I'm sorry I haven't been very active on here lately. Rest assured it's because of me, because I'm busy and wrapped up in my own chaotic mess.
I'm fascinated by memoirs, especially about DID, BPD, and anything else that really complicates my life. Couldn't tell you why; maybe it makes me feel normal, I don't know. Anyway, I just started one called The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes (author of Flowers for Algernon), the true story of Billy Milligan. He has 24 personalities, one of whom commited three kidnaps and rapes. The high-profile case resulted in the first verdict of "Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Illness" because of DID (then called MPD). I am a bit worried it may trigger me, but in the beginning of the book the first thing the author did was to briefly name and describe each alter. Also included were photographs of drawings and paintings done by Milligan's alters of other alters. I've thought of drawing my alters, or at least the most distinct ones, but seeing Milligan's portraits really made it sink in how much it helped to be able to picture these alters, not just for me, but for others. It makes them real, I guess. When I read the descriptions of the alters, it inspired me to write my own. Whereas Milligan's alters were described in short 2-3 sentences, I've written at least half a page each on (so far) Koda, Remy, Rylie, Anji, and Kyle (the 5 most prominent). I figured I'd post cause I'm excited! My story twin, Shannon (in layman's terms, my BFF/sister that I could never live without) has been asking about my alters so she knows what to do/how to tell them apart if/when they call her or come out around her. Plus, it helps me discern between alters that are rather similar (largely, me (Sam) and Rylie, who I can hardly tell apart). I can post the descriptions up here if anyone wants to hear them, I'm almost positive that none of the descriptions will trigger. Anyway, just wanted to share, cause I feel like this is a step in the right direction (or something). Let me know what you think!! ![]()

I always loved Flowers for Algernon (it's my favorite book!), I didn't know why until it was the concept of the two Charlie's in one person, and uncovering the memories that he couldn't before. Daniel Keyes seems to write a lot about DID, Minds of Billy Milligan, The 5th Sally, and his most recent The Asyllum Prophecies.... (the latter 2 are fiction) are just the ones that come to mind.
As for Alts, I've drawn 3, well, they drew themselves through me. and sometimes wrote descriptions. but it's not really something I'd like to get into at the moment. It's really not something I'd like to dig up |

Atreyu, why don't you set up your own blog page (i'm not all that technical but I think thats what some other people on PC have) where you can put a link on your signature to your descriptions and load your pics, that way you can share now and in the future if thats your desire...
just a thought... Good for you with your sense of progress. I hope it continues for you. ![]()
