This is my first time in this forum. I've come here a lot before but am nervous and didn't know how to post this weird stuff. My T tries to give me advice on grounding but she doesn't know what its like to get lost outside and not know where I am.
One second I know where I am and the next I'm in some place I don't recognize. It usually happens when I'm driving and I end up lost and scared and don't remember how I got to where I am. that's why I have panic attacks when driving because I don't know if I'll get to where I'm going or end up in some strange place.
I got a compass on the car so I could get some idea of direction but if I end up in an isolated spot it doesn't always help. It's so scary to not know how I got somewhere. This has been going on for years and before I drove I would end up some place having walked there and not rememeber I know its crazy but it won't stop and it's just too insane. I want to be normal and not get lost and know who I am at all times.
Thanks for this!

I don't thinks it looks weird at all and I'm sure members of this forum will understand completely what you're talking about. I don't know very much about DD, so sorry I don't have advice for that specifically.

I do have an idea that might help - you can buy one of those portable navigation devices - I have a permanent one in my car. If I get lost, I simply press 'return home' and it guides me back. I know this doesn't help you with DD but at least you'll be able to get home. Wishing you wellness ((Hippie)).

im sorry this is happening to you this is why we arent allowed to drive anymore but we end up outside a whole lot especially at night and when that happens we seem to find our way back or else end up having to call her husband. if you dont already have one we would highly suggest carrying a cell phone with the GPS kept turned on in case you find yourself in an unfamiliar area. hope this helped even a little
Thanks for this!

((((((((((( Hippie )))))))))))) Thank you for posting and sharing.
Before I was dx with DID, I would find myself in restraunts and had no idea where I was or how I got there. So I understand that very frieghtening experience. In my case, this was happening when an alter was taking over. I would have no control or knowledge that this was happening. In fact, when my first T suggested I was a multiple, I flipped out and told him he was the crazy one. I could not accept what he was suggesting - even though I had my "friends" inside my head. I just could not accept the reality of it all.

Keep working to find out what is going on inside of you. There is a reason the alters are there if that is the situation. Be kind to yourself and keep fighting for your sanity. You can make it.
Thanks for this!

Don't own a GPS because I think they are pretty expensive. Yes? Or is there a less expensive kind.
What is happening when I get lost? Is part of me aware of what I'm doing or am I just zoning out--like daydreaming One time I found myself outside talking to a neighbor! The neighbor was looking at me kinda weird and I felt confused. Totally confused.

Only you will be able to answer the question of what is happening.
What you should do is start keeping a journal of these events. Jot down information as soon as it happens. Also, start working on paying attention to the way your body feels. If you start to feel stress or a trigger, make a note of that and see if you experience any dissociative symptoms after the trigger.
Thanks for this!

A GPS system can be expensive but they are starting to come down in price. Now you can get them on sale for $80-$100 sometimes. Also, looking somewhere like craigslist or ebay might be a good option to find an inexpensive one, maybe used but in good condition?

WE made a safety card for us so we would know who to call. And just check out the Gps systems they are now becoming more affordable. But no you are not alone. We all get lost a time or two trying to find our way homes. Safe Hugs from all of us to all of you.

Yes there are portable GPS systems that are reasonable and the safety card is a good idea. Sorry this is happening ((Hippie)) - speak with your doctor so he/she can explain it all to you.
