When I started to gather info about DID to take to my sons therapist, I came across a utube interview of Herschel walker. He played football for UGA and then went professional. He was diagnosed with DID in 2001 and has wrote a book about it. I ordered the book two weeks ago and just finished it today. He also was in Augusta Ga on Thursday at Fort Gordon talking about it. So my parents, son that has DID, and I drove two hours to listen to him speak about it. After words he talked to us and told my son he "he got through it and that he will too. You have to have faith and pray." He was really nice. The book was my life line before I found this forum. We are now in the process of trying to find a therapist that deals with this. Our therapist is going to remain involved and is providing therapy for my other sons and he is going to talk to the other therapists to find the right one for us.
Thanks for this!

That's wonderful! I am glad that you had a positive experience with that. It is also a relief to hear that your current therapist is trying to find your son a specialist. That is great. Thank you for sharing.

That's great! When I (we) first heard the diagnosis, our first thought was also to research it. Unfortunately, with no money, all we could do was read excerpts online and make lists of what we want to read lol. It's good to hear that the book is helpful.

As far as him being nice, I think a lot of people with DID are that way--simply because they've been through so much and (for me personally) I know how devastating it can be for one person (especially a "role model" whom you look up to) to use harsh words at an innoportune time.
