I just got diagnosed with DID this week to go with my existing diagnoses of bipolar, BPD and PTSD.
I don't know what to think. I don't really know anything about it other than what I've read on wikipedia and the like, which isn't particularly helpful as you can imagine. So I was wondering what people's experiences of the diagnosis were and how they started to deal with it. |

I was seeing my pdoc for the other, more obvious, stuff anyway and I finally bit the bullet and told him about the flashbacks, the blanks in my life, inability to distinguish between myself and TV characters for example, and so on and so forth. I am an alter apparently, but I deal with all the appointments and trying to get help. I guess you'd call me the protector? Anyway, the pdoc started interrogating me and decided we have DID, but I have to be seen a few more times before we get a formal diagnosis.
The main personality (Karen) and I both get flashbacks of being repeatedly raped by our ex-boyfriend in front of his friends at the age of 15-17. I can sort of deal with it by detaching myself from it, but Karen can't cope really, so here I am. There's one more of us (Charlotte) who simply has a complete blank of those two years. We also had a miscarriage as a result of one of the rapes. So I have to help us somehow. Last edited by sabby; Sep 03, 2010 at 09:35 AM. |

It is quite helpful Did the same pdoc diagnose the BPD & the PTSD/DID? Does the med seem to help the BPD? Just curious.
I went to the pdoc a few years back thinking I was Bipolar and terrified, but in the visists I did share the black out adn blanking out in memories and was told I am not bipolar, it was the PTSD & the DID. But I have had MANY meds and almost always have adverse reactions to them.

No, was a different doc as I keep seeing locums (loci?), then they finally got a permanent consultant. The BPD diagnosis came with the bipolar diagnosis, but we think the bipolar diagnosis will be going. This was the first time I'd mentioned flashbacks, blackouts and evidence of there being more than one of us.
We're not on meds for BPD, only bipolar, except we stopped taking them and now feel more stable than ever. We never had therapy for it either, but we did have CBT for bipolar again. It's almost like they ignore BPD. |

The reason I was asking is, PTSD has alot of symptoms that can fall in different categories. However, there are specifics for the diagnosis of PTSD. It is good that you were finally revealing the most fearful truths....it gives them a clearer picture adn allows proper treatment plan.
