Shattered I tried to post this in your thread, but having computer problems, so I made a new thread.

This is a support group I used to go to 10 years ago. This is their link. I hope you find some helpful information there.

Warning the following are supportive of people with problems through criticism of methods of help that hurt and are not supportive of the 12-step religion.

downsolong,
This thread was to provide information to someone who had asked in another thread for information on 12 step groups. This thread is for providing that information. This thread neither promotes nor disclaims any group, be it a 12 step group or any other group. It is here to provide people a resource to make their own decision about what kind of support and or treatment style they feel best suits them. Please try and keep comments supportive.
Thank you, Monty

Monty_girl,

I'm trying to be as supportive of people as I can and providing information on 12-step groups.

I was reviewing the following site and found tonight coincidentally, a side bar mentioning as a symptom of the Psychological consequences of some recovery groups;

"...members come to suffer from personality disorders like Dissociative Identity Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and Multiple Personality Disorder"

http://www.sossobriety.org/cults.htm

~ Hope you all are well and getting better 12 step support group I.S.A.

12 step support group I.S.A. down, DID and MPD are the same thing...and by the time a person is old enough to be in a recovery group, they are too old to develop this disorder.

Monty was answering a question SPECIFICALLY asking for 12 step programs, not for alternate choices or alternate programs...so we need to answer the question that was asked and not make this a thread to discuss what other places might be better or worse, please. 12 step support group I.S.A.

i know your opinions on this and that you were trying to be supportive and everything, but this isn't the place to re-open the 12-step thread. DID/MPD CAN be a result of ritual abuse caused by cults but it has nothing to do with recovery groups whether they are cults or not UNLESS they practice abuse.

So, let's just try to keep this about answering the original question and not about alternative answers to a question she didn't ask, alright? maybe you could send some alternative programs to her via PM or start a new thread somewhere for alternative programs.

down, I understand that is your belief and it is also the belief of those running the site you put up there. Unfortunately, the site lost credibility when it listed MPD and DID as separate disorders and then called them both personality disorders and linked them with BPD which isn't even remotely the same thing.

Again, this is not the place for beliefs. this is the thread to answer one single question that Shattered asked. Please keep it to that. Those of us here in the DD forum are bothered enough by contention on other forums that we do not need it here in our safe place. Please remember that.

I respect your opinions a great deal but this is not an opinions thread and if you want to talk about it more, let's do it by PMs so that we can quit hijacking this thread.

thanks,
shadow

I think this thread has taken a turn from answering a specific question for a member, to a debate about the program itself.

Thanks,

KD
