FIGMENT FINDS A FRIEND

The constellation was called White Iris in the land of dragons and it sparkled in the night sky like diamonds. All magical creatures were able to find their way home under the brilliance of those stars, as well as the fiery lights that shone from the majestic castle of the land's most beloved, Silver_Queen.

The cave was cold and dark even though the walls were lined with shiny gold, and Figment had to use his claws to guide him deep into the lair. He'd been out all night collecting treasures like all good dragons do, and mud and slime covered his giant purple scales. But Figment didn't care. A dirty dragon was a busy dragon, and busy dragons didn't have time to be lonely.

Figment thought his cool, damp cave was the finest in the land. Not like the cozy, warm cave of his growly neighbor Fuzzybear, who decorated with frilly curtains and even wore a pink bow in her fur. She liked to make scary grrrrrrrr noises like she was fierce, but Figment knew she was just a fuzzy girl.

Fuzzybear even had tea parties for six little friends she called "all the girls." She would sit them around a tiny table and pour them honey-tea. They had soft hair and beautiful names like, Muriel, Bella and Rosie. They belonged to Merry Audrey, a playful lass so funny she could even make purple Petunia's laugh. (And everyone knows Petunias have absolutely no sense of humor.)

Figment pretended not to care, but oh how he was jealous of them. He wanted his own friends and once he even tried to catch the human boy named One. All Figment wanted was a buddy, but the boy was way too smart. One would never be caught by a purple dragon, a Silver Queen's soldier or anyone else. One was a proud warrior that protected all the kind creatures in dragon land so no one would ever have hurt feelings. He hid under, behind, and alongside Shadowdancer, the elusive shade-girl that moved gracefully over the hills and dales. Shadow could not be caught either and together they became the keepers of peace.

Figment jumped when he heard a loud humming noise. "Get out of my cave you crazy hornets," he roared. But Figment knew they would stay. He had come to be quite fond of Zorah, the nest's feisty queen. At least he didn't feel so alone when the hornets were swarming. Zorah was in a playful mood and flew lightning fast out of the nest. Round and round Figments head she buzzed, laughing as she watched him swat the air. She would never sting him and he would never catch her.

Figment took one good swipe, hoping to finally get Zorah back, but instead tripped and fell right on his slimy snout. He reached out a claw to keep himself from sliding and his hand grabbed a small stone. A stone in his cave? It was an insult to a dragon. His cave was for gold, silver and jewels. He was just about to throw that stone back outside where it belonged, when something made him stop. The stone was warm.

Figment ran as fast as his big old butt would allow and soon he was safe in his den. He had a good look at the stone and under the gray, granite surface something glimmered. It made Figment feel happy and warm. He scraped at the stone to see more, but the hard exterior wouldn't budge. He huffed and puffed and breathed fire on it but he had run out of flames after pillaging all night. But he knew of someone very powerful who would help.

He ran back outside and bellowed, "SarahL! Princess of Fire!" He roared it over the mountain tops where SarahL lived with the Sun, creating and tending the sacred fire of the universe. Figment banged on the walls of Fuzzy's cave. "Do you have any fire I can borrow?" he asked the furry-pawed bear, but she shook her head. "No. But I can help you growl." Together they roared into the winds of night. "SarahL! Where are you? Come to dragon land right away if you can. Please help us."

And right there before them, a giant crackling red spark landed at their feet and the exotic SarahL, Princess of Fire, emerged. Her hot flames danced from her fingertips and her eyes were ablaze like embers. With a blinding flash of light she struck the stone with fire, christened it Sapphire, then vanished in a rush of smoke. There before them lay the most stunning jewel the world would ever see.

Figment put the blue stone under his wing and hurried back to his cave. He polished it and polished it until it shone brighter than any diamond and bluer than a midsummer sky. He adorned the stone with soft pine needles that were fairer than any hair he'd ever singed. He took two small, perfect emeralds and used them for eyes. Red ruby lips made up the mouth and a pearl had become a nose.

"Sapphire," he said aloud. "A precious stone. A sparkling gem."

And that my friends, is how Figment found a friend and Gemstone got her name.

i'm also glad that i got to be a keeper of the peace with One. he is definitely a worthy warrior.

Gotta love Figment! I have a tee shirt (and I hate tee shirts) with his face only on it (from Disney) and it says " Not just another pretty face!" I have repainted it and repainted it, and asked Disney to remake it. At least they brought Figment back to Disney World video
