I took a DES test today and my score came out to 72. I am kind of freaking out about this (More than usual) and I didn't even know that it was that bad. Sorry just kind of scared and want some one to talk to that will remember the conversasion. Can some one also tell me what 72 means cause I know that over 30 is associated with D.I.D. And honestly I know its not a bad thing if I did have it but I don't know what my Husband would do if I have it. He was ironicly diagnosed with D.I.D. a few years back before I met him and I've confirmed this with his mother who is a wonderful woman and couldn't bring her self to lie even if she tried.
I know the chances of us both having it are rare and I might just have some other dissociative disorder but this is really starting to concern me cause it's starting to get worse.
Not to mention the other disturbing things that I found out from a long time friend of mine. Well disturbing to me any ways.

if a psychaitrist or other mental health treatment provider administered the test talk with them they will explain how each of your answers were scored and what that means based on your answers.

in general a 72 on the DES just means you have some dissociative symptoms. it does not say you have any dissociative disorders.

DES Stands for Dissociation Experience Scale.

its a very short 28-30 questionaire that anyone can take on their own or with a treatment provider. they are generalized questions that fit almost everyone that takes the test.. for example one question is about finding things in your home you dont remember buying....lol I love that question because every single person has times when they are doing something at home and they come across something they dont remember where they got it, either because so much time has past since getting it, they were in a bipolar mania phase, they had a life altering situation going on at the time, what ever...nobody ever remembers every single thing they have bought over the course of their life time, even normal people find things they dont remember where they got it..

all the questions on the DES are like this they are generalized questions that even normal people have experienced... why does a test have these questions? because dissociation is a normal thing that happens to everyone.

So taking this test on your own only tells you how you were feeling about the questions ****at that moment that you took the test****

for diagnosis purposes tests like this mean something when they are coupled with other things like talking with a psychiatrist, IQ testing, past history documents of mental and physical health, school records....

I have taken the DES 4 times in the last yr..my scores were varied between 25 and 98 depending upon my mood, what was going on in my life, work issues....

basically taking the DES on your own, the DES scoring is like the self administered tests that are here on psych central.. they are just a way for you to monitor your own moods.

if you want to find out whether you actually have a dissociative disorder contact your treatment providers ie your medical doctor, a therapist, a psychiatrist.. they will refer you for diagnostic evaluations for dissociative disorders.. some of those tests include things like blood work, MRI, MRA, CAT Scan and such because in order to be diagnosed DID things like drug and alcohol use problems, seizures and what kind of seizures, and other mental and physical health problems that can also cause the same symptoms that dissociative disorders have.

Thank you so much but I'm absolutely terrified to go to a psychologist but then again its worth a shot. Thanks for the support
Thanks for this!
