Does any one have the experience of Deja Vu with their DID?

Deja Vu: the illusion of remembering scenes and events when experienced for the first time.... a feeling that one has seen or heard something before.

Absolutely, I have deja vu. I'm not sure if it is in any way related to having DID though. Were you asking if they are related somehow?

NO.... I was not asking if they are related in any way - just asking if any one experiences it along with their DID.

I often have Deja Vu mixed with DID and it leaves me wondering if I really knew about it before or if it is just my DID catching up with the real me (my present life in real time).... I am down to just 1 alter now and she is so closly in-line with me that it hard to tell us apart.

some people have this anomalous experience where... things seem significant... like there is some kind of message in events.
some people have this anomalous experience where... things seem familiar... like they have been there before.

it is thought to be an endogenously generated experience (from internal factors) and it is a sensation that you have been there (in that precise situation) before.

i guess it depends on how exact your experience is. i have it quite a lot where i'm sure i've been exactly where i am before. where the people are and everything. sometimes people conclude they dreamed it before it happened... sometimes people have been to the place before (and forgot being there) but sometimes it is more than the place it is precisely where the people are and well... that can't have been experienced before. it is supposed to be an illusory experience because... you haven't been in that precise circumstance before.

people with all kinds of dx's (and with no dx at all) can have deja vu experiences.

they can be kinda freaky sometimes.
i don't think it is related to the DID...
but i know i tend to have the experiences more when i am tired... or overtired...

Ok - let me try to explain what I am trying to ask here.... for I know that people have Deja Vu experiences without having the Dx of DID or other mental problems.

But I am wondering if other DID people have a sense of Deja Vu with their DID being active.... Meaning that after you find out about something that is important or just gossip being told then you have the feeling from within that you already knew about this issue (rather you really did or not).... or that when an event has taken place then 2-5 minutes later you feel that you have already lived thru it or knew about it?

Meaning that maybe a DID alter is just catching up with what is going on in your personal life (the present) and now they are present and it is strange for they are now living thru what you just went through or experienced, hence the Deja Vu feeling, for you are going thru it twice with in 10 minutes.
And this is not just the occasional occurrence, but rather the norm in an average week of life.

Did I explain my self better this time..... do you understand what I am asking now?

Now Im confused.

Ok do you mean something like -

I sit down to draw something and then while Im drawing say a tree it feels like I drew that tree before so I go looking for my artwork and find out there is a sketch of a tree in the folder?

Eeeek! - ok let me try again.... my hand and mind does not always work well together - lol.

No - it is more like you go over to your families house and you hear about a situation that involves one of them and then after the story is over - YOU feel / know that you already knew about the matter before it was told to you at that moment.

Or - when you are out doing some thing and then when you return home you wonder / feel like you have done that before today and with the exact same people and the exact same way.

Ive had dreams about things happening and then a couple days to two weeks later it happens kind of thing like I dreamt my child was in a car accident and I told a friend and two weeks later he was in a car accident being transported to a visitation.

I have alot of things where I will be doing something and realize Ive done it before like getting a glass of soda and setting it down and sitting there drinking it I think Ive done that before and I look down at the floor and see there is an empty dirty glass there.

But none of these were "allusions". Years ago I didn't look for the evidence of the activites when I felt like I have heard or said or done something before so it seemed like deja vu but ater I started to focus on the feeling and looked at why I was feeling that way I would find the evidence that the feeling of doing something before was actually my doing it when I was not aware - when I was dissociated.

But no nothing like someone telling me something and feel like I heard it before and it turn out to be I didn't hear it before.

Ok thanks...... maybe someone else with DID might be able to associate with what I am talking about.... for while this issue does not create any problems for me it does leave me feeling very confused and disoriented at times, often.

I am just wondering if it might be that my last alter is just playing catch up with me and my life.... so when she finally gets there within a few minute after I do, she is now going thru it, therefore, it feels like I have been there done that.... I have always been aware of 98% of what goes on in my life during my dissociation moments (a rare occurs in DID from what my doctor has told me).

I am aware of most of my dissociation moments also. Good to see someone else has been.

Not sure I understand the deja-vu experiences that you have or are trying to explain.
But I do have deja-vu experiences. I have had "dreams/visions" also.

I emailed the thread to a professional friend of mine because I wanted to understand better.

he told me from the last post it sounds like you are trying to figure out if deja vu feelings is co consciousness and integration. sometimes people he has been in contact with use the phrase - alters catching up with me - as a way to explain being integrated.

He also said integration feelings are not like feeling deja vu.

Integration feelings is just remembering what you have forgotten like you have put your keys down somewhere and forgot where you put them and suddenly you remember where they are.

an example of When alters are integrated or as he sometimes refers to it as - the alter catching up with the person is like someone not knowing they were raped and then can remember parts or all of the rape experience.

Deja vu is when the person has never experienced something in any way consciously or unconsciously and get the feeling that they have heard or done that before. for example riding a bus and going down a completely new street and feeling like I have been there before.

What causes deja vu feelings is because there may be one thing that matches with another situation for example by eyes happen to record seeinng a window that looked like a window of a familiar house I have been in before. Even when we are not paying attention to our senses the brain is still taking in what is around the person. When seeing the window that matches with a window of a house I am familiar with the feeling that I have been there before happens.

he said having this happen is not limited to people with DID every human being experiences deja vu because from the day they are born to the day they die the 5 senses are automatically taking in information and the brain is continuously matching what is being experienced through the 5 senses and matching it with the experiences and memories that person has had.

Integration (or as some people call it alters - memories - catching up) and dejavu are completely unrelated and different.

I guess its like you are some times living your life twice, except when the second life / event occurs you have a sense, a strong feeling that you already did it or knew about it before.

YES, that helps..... and while I know that Deja Vu and DID are not really related in the literal sense, I guess I was just trying to place a word with the strange inner feeling I was experiencing.... but all in all I have felt that it was due to my DID and the Deja Vu was the only feeling / word I could relate it too.

Thanks............... it is probably just my last remaining alter playing catching up with me and my present life, for she is always one step behind, very close and never far.

Is Deja Vu like knowing something before it happens?
Am DID and have had moments that I know I have lived before and they happen agin and have had moments where I saw before they happened too.

P.S. (secondary thought to Deja Vu)

Have you ever seen something and then it happened right before your eyes.... within a few minutes of that exact moment or with in a day or two? Or have you gotten a present and already knew what was inside of it even though you had never seen it before (never peaked)?

Could you be psychic?? Could your experiences be that of something not really understood?
Don't know how much of that type of thing you believe or know. I was with a very psychic friend and she knew of my DID before I told her. She "saw" the others. But she also "saw" one or more inside that were not alters but spirit guides. She also talked about past life experiences...
Don't know how much I believe or put stock into that stuff, but, she knew Ajna's name before I told her and she knew of Ajna's role in my system which is that of Internal Self Helper.

Yeah right - FREAKY is the word.............. and then again I do come from a supposedly long line of psychic abilities from within my family, but who Know? - and yes, I do think it is possible.

It gets very confusing when DID and the "spirit world" collide.
I am told I am an Empath--and that in itself is a scary place to be.
I often wonder sometimes if past lives have gotten mixed up with present life, or how impressions of others pain and experiences affects insiders....
so strange.
Wish there was someone I trusted enough to really talk about and explore this...
my Reiki master/instructor would have had she not been moving far away.
My religious beliefs don't allow for much exploration in this area....
So confusing and so disorienting....

All in all - no matter what it is............... DID, Deja Vu or Psychic abilities, etc - it is strange and very confusing at times.
