Hello everyone, my name is Mai. This past weekend something pretty strange happened. I had a big argument with my mother and she said some nasty things which stressed me out and put me into shock. I've had dissociative episodes before such as depersonalization and such but nothing like this. My brain completely shut down and I went into this state where I was 7 years old again. My mother confirmed that I was exhibiting childlike behaviors and she even seemed to be convinced I was a child at one point. It was like I knew my older self existed but she just wasn't there then. She was far away and my younger self was just talking to my mother as if nothing had happened. Whatever I did I couldn't just bring my older self back, it was as if my older self had to choose to come back when she was ready. Anyway, I've never experienced anything like this before so can anyone just help me figure out what happened and what I should do? Thank you!

Seeking a professional out is really all I can recommend. I can say that I'm familiar with what you described here. A psychologist would be best to consult about what this may be.

Yes, I've been looking into that recently. Just kind of hesitant to take the leap. Thanks though!

Im sorry but in answer to your question of what happened to you and what you should do and help you figure this out.....its a no can do. only you and your own doctors know what this is in you and what you should do about it and help you figure out what this is in you.

what I can tell you is that ............in me.............. my own treatment providers call this many things based on things like what caused it to happen, how long it lasted, what other symptoms and problems were going on, even things like what medications I am on, whether i am eating right or getting enough sleep, nightmares sleep issues tells my doctors, therapists and psychiatrist whether this is a dissociative thing, something normal or something psychotic.

my suggestion is talk with your mother and ask her to call your doctor to set up an appointment with your doctor. then your doctor will tell you what the problem is in you and what you should do about it and help you to figure this out.

I'm not sure what your experience was but it does sound like something you might want to talk to a professional about.Especially since it seems very concerning for you.
