Hi,
I know I have another alter, 5 years old name Sami, she got the biggest mouth. She will tell anyone I'm depress or suicidal (if I am). My questions is why she do that and when the therapists know the alter is out they don't want to talk to them. Even Crisis line. Why is that? I think therapist may get more information why the alter is out, why "host" is feeling whatever he/she feeling and work on the issues. Christa |

why dont your treatment providers want to talk to your alter sami, Again we cant answer that only your treatment providers can answer whey they wont talk with your alter.... what I can tell you is that here in america there are guidelines to what is a mental disorder and what isnt. treatment providers here in america go by what is called ....diagnostic criteria....here is where you can read about what DID is here in America..... http://forums.psychcentral.com/disso...s-dsm-5-a.html as for dissociation well that is something even normal people do. dissociation is a reaction just like anger is.....think about a time when someone said something you did not like, your reaction was most likely feeling things like angry, hurt, betrayed..... dissociation is when you feel numb, foggy minded, spaced out.....when something happens.... example this morning I stubbed my toe on the corner of the coffee table. the pain was so painful it caused me to feel not only the pain of stubbing my toe but also numb out, space out, feel like I was not quite all in reality. another example... I had to see my doctor yesterday for a check up on my physical health. when he put the very cold stethoscope on my warn body that caused me to feel foggy minded spaced out, numb. the good part of dissociation is the solution/cure for it is called grounding, relaxing, calming yourself. most treatment providers here in America now do not work directly with calling out alters, talking with the alters and such. before they do any work with alters the person must be stable and able to handle their daily life, able to handle fining out about all the horrific traumas that caused them to become DID. Usually what that means is the focus is on the host gaining stability by working on their own problems first. doing this can most times result in the natural integration of the alters. DID type alters are a very special kind, they have their own jobs, purposes and reasons why they were created. take care of that and the alter is no longer needed to accomplish that job, purpose, reason for being created. example you seem to know when sami is in control, if you didnt you would not know what happens when sami tries to talk to treatment providers an you would not know treatment providers wont talk to that alter. so heres a question...what is it that makes sami take control. if sami is a dissociative type alter then there is a reason/its sami's job to take over when the same thing happens....what is the common denominator in all the times when sami takes over. once you figure that out and can handle that problem on your own sami will once again merge/become one with you and you will be one whole person again. example my alter trixie would come out every time I was performing a certain sex act. it was her job, purpose, reason for being to handle sexual situations. once I was able to handle that particular sex act trixie no longer took control and because her job, purpose, reason for being was gone she became merged with me, we became one whole person everything she was became me... another reason why in general treatment providers are moving away from working with alters is because of something called false memory syndrome.. with some people focusing on the alters causes them to create false alters alters that are not real alters, just a figment of the hosts imagination, playmate, imaginary friend how ever you want to put it to gather the attention of the treatment provider. by refusing to talk with the alters the focus is back on the host and their problems and the real alters come out naturally through the natural process of therapy and daily life. in short therapy is for helping the client to become better, more stable, if an alter is coming out more frequently then the client is usually getting worse not better. if they were getting better they would be switching into the alters less. At least thats what treatment providers here in NY go by. they go by this because being diagnosed DID and after diagnosis of DID only puts a name to whats already been happening. example before I was diagnosed DID I had all the symptoms and evidence of DID, not just having an alter named Trixie. After I was diagnosed trixie did not come out any more often then before I was diagnosed. she came out according to what her job, purpose reason for being was since before I was 5 yrs old and continued to do so until I learned how to handle the problems that trixie handled for me. then she merged, integrated, became one with me. my suggestion if you really want your answers you will need to contact your treatment providers and ask them. they will be able to tell you what kind of alter (there are many different types of altered personalities with many different mental and physical health problems) sami is and why the treatment for you is to focus on your problems not focus on talking and befriending sami. |
