Hi
I have DID and usually dissociate when around medical personnel. Due to my physical health, I have to go back to my urologist next week. The last time I saw him, it wasn't me who actually was there. In fact, he's never even met me. it's always been one of my alters who interacts with the doctor. We are all scared silly about this upcoming appointment because the last time we saw the doctor, he disregarded our request for caution and just went ahead and did what had to be done for our good, I guess. This "good thing," however, led us to admit us to the psych hospital for several days afterwards. We have not gone back to this doctor since that experience and it was almost two years ago.........I guess the main point of this post is to ask if anyone has any pointers on how to prep and handle the little ones before, during and after this visit. I've got several young alters, most of them being under age 8. They are terrified of touch in general and I don't know how to get through this appointment without some touch in "sensitive areas." Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

unfortunately since you are the one that will be going through this appointment, only you and your treatment providers know how to best handle this situation. anything I suggest may go against what ever treatment options you are on and what the doctor is looking for during your appointment.

only you know what is calming to you and what isnt....

my suggestion contact your treatment providers, let them know what is going on and they can help you figure out ways you can calm yourself down and go through the appointment with out compromising the results of the appointment and without compromising what ever treatment options you are on.

another suggestion...maybe reading your past posts will point you to what you have done in the past when having to go to physical or mental health appointments, that can help you now. one thing I have found is that if something works for me for one appointment it works for me for other appointments.
