Can I ask you all something....
Do you change "switch" in therapy session / when meeting with your therapist or just any other who has like "authority" ? Does the Alters always have names and age ? / Are they completely separated or just many versions of yourself ? Do you sometimes remember what the Alters said or were doing ? Can you control the alters , like when your around your family or kids/someone else ? /so they don't see you in that stage, you are aware of the Alter/s and "switch" intensionally or just unintentionally ? Do you have sense of who you really are...can you find yourself somewhere behind the alters ? if yes...how did you do that ? How did you figure out you had DID ?/ Was it obvious to someone or did you read about it or did you just always know ? I hope you can answer this, I'm very desperately seeking some answers here ![]() |

Quote:
example many people with DID hear voices. well so do people with bipolar disorder, depression, psychosis, hallucinations, delusions, anxiety, bipolar disorder, cancers, anemia's, neuro muscular diseases, stress,.... my point is the only way you know whether you have DID or not is if you go to a mental health treatment provider and they have you take a long testing process that can last weeks or more. then they tell you whether you have DID or not... sure you can come on places like psych central and end up trying to self diagnose but like I showed you in the example you can end up self diagnosing yourself with problems that you dont actually have and possibly doing more harm then good. if you suspect you have DID or any other mental disorder the best thing to do is contact a medical doctor and a mental health treatment provider ie therapist/psychiatrist. they will be able to tell you how to get evaluated and then be able to tell you whether your problem is normal, mental or physical problem.. if this is for a school assignment or research well researching on members is not allowed but heres some basic information.... DID isnt something a person can control. its something that happens when a child under the age of 5 (according to NY mental health demographics/statisticsa). the under age 5 child is abused in the most horrific ways to the point where while using their unconscious dissociative skills their brain unconsciously divides and walls off everything to do with the extreme abuse. these divided off parts of self develop into functioning alternate personalities. these alternate personalities from the moment that they are created take control any time there is a situation in which cant be handled (this is called being triggered) the alter or host that is triggered dissociates (feels numb spaces out, what ever is that alter or hosts dissociative symptoms) and do so in every aspect of the persons life occupational, social, academic, consciousness, memory....based on what their jobs, purposes, reasons for being are. DID type alters are a very special kind of alters. they are what ever is needed in order to keep the body/host surviving. they are completely separate identities/alternate personalities and function as completely separate identities. they can be perceived to be humanistic, animalistic, plant like characteristic what ever a persons own cultural background is (example a few of my alters were animalistic in nature/characteristic ie named after animals, had keen eyesight, hearing of an animal from my cultural background) the actual DSM 5 wording about this process/diagnostics for DID are found here http://forums.psychcentral.com/disso...s-dsm-5-a.html As you can see by the diagnostics with DID there is memory loss, there is another dissociative disorder called Other Specified Dissociative Disorder criterion 1 where there is little to no memory loss is a factor. if you scroll down in the above link you can read more about this. now that you know the basics you will be able to understand my answers to your questions.... no I could not control my alters. they took over control based on what their jobs, purposes, reasons for being were...example if I was stressed out at work and could not handle something at work the alters who's job, purpose reason for being was to do the job I happened to be having a problem with took control and did that for me. if I was having a problem at home ie was having problems in the garden what ever alter who's job purpose reason for being was gardening took control and did that for me, if I was having a problem in school doing my math, then the alter who's job, purpose reason for being was to do math/number work took over and did that for me...what ever was causing me stress and to have my dissociative symptoms was when the alters took control and did what ever I couldnt handle doing on my own. some of my alters had names others did not if thats what their job, purpose, reason for being was....Some had the job purpose reason for being to answer to any name so that others outside of me would not know I was not available /was not there. Some didnt answer to any name because that was part of their job, purpose, reason for being. I had very little memory of what went on when my alters took control those I was co conscious with was very limited co consciousness (co consciousness is how much can be shared/known about the host/internal system of alters between everyone.) i learned I was DID when A therapist sent me to be tested by a psychiatrist. after testing the psychiatrist told both me and my therapist what my diagnosis's are/were. that was many years ago and I have since achieved integration of all my alters. |
