can bipolar cause dissociation?
i dont have hallucinations or hear voices, but im nearly constantly dissociating..

i have been forcing myself to exposure / desensitization alot for past few months, could all the pressure im putting on myself to "get better" be causing a new worse symptom?

i also find myself tapping alot... pacing and using my hand tapping my legg, what does that mean?

thanks

no the two do not cause each other.

bipolar disorder is a diagnostic label for a group of symptoms that fall into three predictable /trackable phases.....depression, hypomania / hypomanic and mania/manic.

dissociation is things like feeling numb, spacy, foggy minded, not quite connected to one self or ones environment.

anyone who has no mental disorders, who has any mental disorders or any physical health problems can and does dissociate. you dont have to be mentally or physically ill to dissociate.

a person with bipolar disorder can have dissociation symptoms too. example when I am in my depression phase (insomnia, extreme sadness, loss of appetite, feeling tired and hopeless, not interested in normal activities that would other wise bring me joy, thoughts of death/suicide) of my bipolar disorder sometimes I also have dissociative symptoms along with my bipolar symptoms like feeling a bit confused/foggy minded, memory problems, numb, spaced out, like Im not connected to myself and my environment.

forgot to add....as for the tapping, pacing only you can say what that means to you but its not a dissociation problem, dissociation is a feeling/reaction not an action. feeling numb, feeling spaced out, feeling like you are just watching/not participating,....

the tapping and pacing here in NY is called anxiety/panic, and other mental disorders like OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) ADHD (attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) and many other physical and mental disorders.

to find out what this is in your location and with in you, you will need to contact a medical doctor or a mental health treatment provider that is in your off internet location.

A person under any "label" can have symptoms from any "label". They are just labels and often the criteria changes for them any ways. The symptoms are what's really important. Not the label.

I'm bp 1 and they have nothing to do with each other. Yu can get depersonalizations through mania.

It's like all of you are multiplied by 5. Depression, mania, hypomanic, mixed state, and normalcy.
Thanks for this!
