I use to stare at the stranger in the mirror. After years of looking, I've accepted the fact that that's what we look like. Sux.

Sometimes what I see in the mirror I see with new eyes.

There's a book on dissociation that my former T told me about, that had that name as a title. I could never read it though because the book itself was a major trigger. I wasn't ready for it then. I never talked to anyone about dissociating.

But I remember looking at the mirror and thinking, "who is that person? They sure look sad. Glad I'm not that sad, that looks pretty bad." I knew it was me in some sense.

Anyhow, I'm starting to get the same feeling again everyonce in a while, but now I think I'm just having to get used to slowly looking better. I got a new haircut and I really do look different. Every once in a while I look in the mirror and I think. "Wow, that's me!? I look OK !!"

I look in the mirror and I see someone other than me :/

After awhile you kinda get use to it, or not.

Has it been that way for a while? Is it hard to deal with? You don't have to answer if you don't want. Or you could PM. Like I said, it's still a little new to me to talk about my committee members in my head. Things are changing for me though and at least now I talk about us instead of they. And we kind of all get along pretty well. Before I was kind of scared of some of them, they would get so angry. Anyhow, we can stop this thread if you like.

It's been that way all my life. The mental image- the way I know how I look- of myself and mirrored image never matches. Sometimes I'm shocked and stare, sometimes I see past it and keep going on. It gets depressing sometimes. Some of the others just play it off.
Like I said, it's been that way and you kind of get used to it.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
