Now that i stopped going to therapy i am noticing that i don't really think about DID. It's like therapy happened a long time ago. Like i know we went but there is a feeling of it being unreal. Also when i think about possibly going back to therapy i feel fearful. Like it will be too scary for us. It's weird now knowing about us as a system. I mean we don't have to go to therapy but it feels like we should be going to therapy.

Unfortunately we can get a temporary high from stopping therapy but when symptoms come back we are not as prepared to cope with them as in therapy. If the therapist is the problem, get a new one that specializes in DID if possible (rare bird I hear)

Besides being an active participant in helping oneself at Psych Cental, many people also help support each other by replying to other people's posts. Many people who are actively involved in Psych Central find it helps take them out of their own problems to develop empathy for others. And their problems are more manageable the more they help others.

therapy is like a double-edged sword... like CANDC said, it may feel better for a time, but then the symptoms flare up again (usually).
That said, starting over is also the same - when we've had time off or like me jumping from t to t trying to find the right fit this past year, now that I have one who knows DID, I feel like I've jumped from the frying pan into the fire.
It's "making us worse" because it's bringing up stuff. I've not yet been able to find that balance of happy medium yet...

Thanks for the advice . I think i would like to find a t that knows about DID. My last t did but it was time to go. I did.nt feel like i could trust her anymore . Trust is everything

I'm DID and have been thru several therapists who were too rough and unbelieving for my alter to ever show up in the therapy room. My T now is very gentle and I'm just now opening up to her. I can see why you're ambivalent, Lucidity. It takes a certain personality in T for alters to come forth. Maybe after some time to settle you might consider a therapist trained for DID. If you're co-conscious and handle life and relationships, maybe therapy isn't necessary. But if things aren't going so well, there are therapists who your alters can trust.
