Hey hi! I get voices in my head from others, but ones from outside are indicative of another form of MI. Are you in therapy? Have a Pdoc?

Also, if it's real, it's true. Anything other, an anti-psychotic might fix it. Just saying. Good luck with that!

What does the voices say? Do they claim to have names? Are they command voices? Are they random? Or do you get to have an intelligent convo with them?

Jamie21...Im sorry but we can not tell you whether this is real or not...but I can tell you that here in america dissociative disorders carry the diagnostic criteria of reality testing remains intact...what that means is if these voices are dissociative type voices you and your voices know whether they are real or not,

ultimately we each have to go according to what our own treatment providers tell us and diagnose us with, here on psych central we dont tell each other what their problems are and whether its real or not. frankly and to the point its impossible for us to say that because we are not in your body and we are not your treatment providers.

my suggestion is contact your (or a )treatment provider in your location. they will be able to help you to discover whether this is real or not for you.

i have experienced both external and internal voices...more internal...but the outside stuff i noticed was more related to when i was under a lot of stress. it also sometimes included seeing things or shadows of things. i have also heard other external (or maybe not) things like music when none is being played. my psychiatrist told me years ago that when i heard whispering behind me (externally) or thought someone was saying my name (externally) it was more how my brain processed sound (but was also during times of high distress).

as for my internal voices, i got to know them unlike the external things that were kind of just not really there long term and nothing i could grasp so to speak. but even those have changed over the years, so i can 'forget' they exist until they come up again or not just the voices but other things linked to them.

what feels real to you IS real...at least that is what i have learned for myself.

Everyone has voices in their head. If voices seem to be coming from something other than yourself, then that's trouble. Not an unsolvable problem, though.
