I'm just mortified I went to work ill, and they sent me home after an hour. For some reason that freaked me out and I went all pleady scared eight year old on the ever so patient financial controller. I just really like my bosses and I guess I thought they'd think I was taking the pea or something. Even though it was them sending me home. I'm so embarrassed. I don't know why I acted like that. I hate this.

It's nice that you have a workplace that cares about you for what you are, not just the value you produce.
We wish that was the case with our work- we have to show up for shifts even if we have a fever. Sometimes we feel like we are soldiers in the military with this work that we have.

We admit that we are a bit jealous, but than again we also understand that this might not be appropriate- because we don't read that you're happy to be treated with consideration. We hear that you are embarrassed. That you feel that this is something bad that happen. We don't think it's a bad thing that happen- to show up sick for work (which deserves kudos in our book) & to be sent home for rest & recovery.
It's not like you choose to be too sick to work. But if it happened to us we might have feel the same. Also, we don't want to sound intrusive or invasive. We just read carefully & try to pay attention as we're also pre-occupied with work related issues.

Do you know what it was about the incident that freaked you out? Do you know what it triggered?

ETA: Get better soon!

I agree with the above: They CARE about you, .
It was a little embarrassing, yes, but you get to go home and recover and return to people who genuinely care about your well-being.

I always work sick. Unless they will pay me and send me home I show up. I don't trust my bosses to not replace me the second my life needs a little attention.

Maybe you felt rejection because they were asking you to leave and that freaked you out. It could have been something else. Ask your eight year old what caused him/her to freak out. Maybe explain to your parts that the bosses are only looking out for you. This might help if something similar comes up. Feel better.

Hey guys, Thanks so much for the responses - They really helped.

I am still so embarrassed at what happened. It wasn't anything untoward, other than I really was blatantly 'young' and scared and pleady. It doesn't even make sense, as I know they like me there. (I have handed my notice in and they want to take me on as a consultant after I leave.) Even more reason not to be worried about going home sick as I am leaving in a couple of months anyway!

This one really hit home. I've been dwelling on this all afternoon. I think it will probably link back to my family - who won't do a single nice thing for me without throwing it back in my face somehow. Its been that way all my life - like being nice to me requires some kind of trade off that inevitably ends up not being worth it. Thats a pretty huge connection to make though, as of all the things I experienced from them, I didn't think that aspect was a particularly big problem.

I'm just so fed up of being a freak. I just want to be normal, and graceful, and dignified
