I'm not sure if anyone's heard about this movie yet, but it's all ready out...

going to post the trailer below for anyone curious

(when I say it's all ready out, this is 2017 movie)

not something that's been out years

of course, if I do see it, i'll wait for the dvd release- no way would I go to a movie theater for obvious reasons

I've seen the trailor and we are disgusted to the pit of our stomach. I hate Hollywood and lying politicians alike because if they say it....people thinks its real.

Fixin to go on a political rant so I'll just stop there.

We also feel sad/mad about it because it makes us see ourselves in a bad way like were freaks or something. I don't know how to say it....it gives us a complex I suppose.

I want to see it, but money is tight so I can only get to the theatre if the mother is seeing another movie the syncs up in time... usually, we do not get triggered by stuff like this, so I want to see the kind of damage this could create, and be able to "report back" I guess...

no I will not be going to see this. it is a fictional (not real) horror mystery drama. by a writer who's material is based on gore and super natural/ psychic phenomena, in short everything found in the movie will be things that disqualify a person for having DID. the plot of the movie is that he kidnaps three girls and does unspeakable horrors to the girls all in the name of having DID. there are many references to the harry potter series (most likely because the writer was going to be part of producing harry potter but missed out due to other films that he was producing at the time when asked to help out on harry potter movies) the writer is also known for perpetrating documentary style hoax's.

I tend to stay away from movies that portray mental illness in such negative ways as this. and when I do see any movies by this writer I keep in mind he is a writer of fiction, horror, mystery and the supernatural so what is in the screen is going to reflect that... lots of gore, stigmatizing of the mentally ill, and anything else that will get the rating and money coming in.

The television channels my wife and I watch have many commercials for this movie. I always have the remote ready to change channels when it comes on. We don't like to even watch the commercial.

I've seen the commercials for this movie and I do plan on watching it. It's supposedly based on a true story and a real person. I Googled the real story behind the movie. That being said; I think the movie will seriously anger me. I'm sure it will make mental illness seem like such an evil and scary thing.

I saw it. If I had DID, I would not see it because of the trigger.

The lead actor was amazing, Oscar nominee?

It made interesting commentary about the different personalities having different abilities, even saying one personality can have physical ailments that others don't. I have no idea if that is based on truth.

I hope the film doesn't do harm to the perception of people to DID. Maybe it will even help the public persona and start more understanding.

It's just another stupid movie of make believe and fantasy. Like for real?

I'm more annoyed then anything else. Now SAW is a awesome movie. This one seems to be a B movie.

i actually saw this movie and i liked the director's concept of the subconcious and how he depicted that and also the recovery from trauma... yes it was dramatic and over the top... it did resonate somewhat with me. as far as the ending (THIS IS A SPOILER) the whole sequel thing to Unbreakable is BS. Unbreakable was okay, but seriously?

James McAvoy was awesome in it

So I did see it finally a couple weeks ago. I liked it. The beginning parts were pretty accurate to DID. When it came to the classic Shyamalan "twist", it was great movie wise, and completely unrealistic in my mind to real life.

The part that concerns me is that since the beginning was true to life, that some nimrods will believe the end is also possible... I mean, technically, there are people these days that believe the world is flat and that pictures from space are fabricated to mislead us. You never know what some people will believe.

In regards to the SPOILER...
I kinda wonder if a sequel to Unbreakable mixed with Split might actually be kinda cool...

So, out of curiosity because I was initially interested in seeing this, but I can sometimes be easily triggered by certain forms of trauma, I have to be careful with what I watch. From a perspective of PTSD would this movie be okay to watch? Both one of my alters and I can get reminded of things in very harmful ways.

I would say it could be very triggering.

Spoiler:

I am mentioning parts that could be triggering and only TW a couple things cuz there was no way to say it gently, so proceed with caution.

There is a point where one of the girls tells another (three were taken) to
Possible trigger:
when she is being taken from the room by the main character (the one who kidnapped them), which is something that I immediately recognized. She could tell he was OCD, and used her own experience.

There are also flashbacks to her experience as a child suggesting improper behavior of a family member with her.
Possible trigger:

I appreciate the response and might check it out. Usually when I know what it contains, I can prepare for it. So, thank you.

There are sexual abuse innuendos, also kidnapping, and of course someone portraying a dramatic case of DID

You're welcome. I don't get triggered by movies or TV really at all, so it's pretty easy for me to see anything I want without having to worry. It also makes it where I can kinda be the guinea pig and go and report back on what could be triggering for others. I really only get triggered by seeing stuff irl, and even them not much.

Mostly just get triggered by cues to my own trauma.
