Do you find when an Other presents after you that your short term memory is wiped clean? I don't know if this makes sense. I surmise that when they take over the conscious and I is still awares....mentally it takes a moment or two longer then it does physically to switch...so we experience memory fade.

Then when the switch is complete....it's like a blank slate. It's very bewildering and confusing...to instantly have to play detective, draw the memory out, faking the present, you know, all the anxiety causing unfun stuff.

no I have never had to fake the present, play detective and such. the way my system worked was trigger related. anytime I encountered a trigger (positive or negative including something like I didnt know something or didnt know how to do something, the alter that did contain that information, took care of that trigger took control and handled that for me....

my system was like what you described in your past posts where if you needed to drive some where you would automatically switch to the alter that did know how to drive and drove for the others.

I didnt worry about memory problems because thats how I was all my life, it was my normal to not be able to remember and the switching to happen automatically based on each alters sense of agency (what each alters job, purpose, reason for being was and much more)

but now that I am integrated is does sometimes happen to me where one moment I will know or remember something I am doing and then it fade out and have trouble with it, sometimes lost. my treatment providers tell me in me some of that is just normal and other times its part of my other mental disorders and physical health problems and sometimes its because of my medications.

suggestion if this continues to bother you contact your or a treatment provider. they will be able to assess what the problem is and how to fix it. the good thing is if its a dissociative problem its very easily fixable through using grounding techniques, memory skills games and if you have co consciousness communicating with your alters to fill in the blanks.

Ya...pretending is like when an alter has to pretend to be another alter because the alter just didn't show to do their job...like go to work. Sometimes the workers are like mia and I have to pretend to be them...it's so weird and hard. So far so good with so few comments. I figure this to be that they are still passed out or being lazy....really don't know.
Thanks for this!

I know this feeling. For me this happens when something happens really fast unexpected response. Like I guess, a situation that I normally have been able to endure in past..but happens one to many times and some other part jumps out and reacts instinctually, but only for a matter of minutes then the situation is not over but the course NOTICEABLY altered from what I last remember...then I have to deal with the consequences...sometimes. I think what I am aiming to say here is.. this feeling happens when there is a large change, major jolt.... F IT! A FREAKIN DISRUPTION IN THE FORCE!! don't care if that sounds silly. That's what it is.
