In one word - traumatic.
Four words: two hours of it.

It was freaking hard. Our psychologist came with us, thank goodness, and stepped in to help with grounding skills as needed (lots).
The psychiatrist asked soooooo many questions, and very few of them were not triggering. We feel like we've been run over by a bus. Ka-thunk.

Outcome: confirmation of DID and PTSD diagnoses. Recommendation to the therapy funding peoples - yes, thank you, long term.

Taking care of ourselves now in all the ways we know how.

Yep, it was really hard!! Really really really hard. But we made us do it because we need to get the funding for therapy, and they needed to verify that we have a current mental health condition that is a direct result of abuse that requires ongoing therapy. We have a longstanding diagnosis of DID, they just needed to check it was still appropriate (and yes it is, no surprises there!) I couldn't even tell you how many of us took part in yesterdays assessment effort. Must have looked a little crazy from the outside looking in!
It was hard because the psychiatrist was a stranger, and it was supposed to be in our Ts room but got moved last minute to another office in another part of town, but we sure were glad our T was there with us!

I'm so very sorry that it was so traumatic for you and so hard for you. There are truly tears for you now. That had to have been more than you thought you could do. You are very brave and I applaud you. For what that's worth to your heart.

It was okay that it was hard, and it was okay for us to push through it. We have some hard work to do in therapy, in facing things we should have faced a long time ago but didn't have either the inner reserve or the outer support to do it. Now we've got both, so the time is right to push us through it all the way to the other side so we can get to where we want to be.

May your trail guide you and lead you to where you want to be too, TR.
