I have a head fog that is persistent and things always seem a little surreal. Sometimes it gets worse and it is foggy and very surreal to the point that it feels like what is going on isn't real. I have had some intense episodes while driving, which really spooks me. It is definitely driving while impaired. If a cop could see what the highway looked like to me I would get pulled over, no question. And there are the "what if" scenarios in the back of my mind. I really need to get this under control if possible. Is it? I have talked to my t about the head fog. That's when I learned that it was derealization. I did not say that some episodes are safety concerns. I am afraid to tell anyone. Are there any good treatment options?

Do things that will ground yourself. Focus hard on the road and every car and things that are happening in the real world - outside your mind. It may be preferable to have another person drive you or get public transport.
Ask your T what may be helpful to get your mind in the present. Sometimes we need to make the smart decisions in order to be safe. |

A follow up...
Is ther any harm in letting it happen when I am home, lounging out on the deck or whatever? The sensations I get when it happens are not unpleasant; it's a nice little mental escape when it's safe. But if I increase the chances it will happen when it shouldn't I need to resist it then also.
