So does anyone else ever have the experience of looking in the mirror and not recognizing themselves. I hate it when a stranger stares back at me. (sorry if I sound nuts) but it happenned again this weekend and I'm feeling especially vulnerable so I guess I let it bother me more than normal.

Does anyone have any info about this weird phenomenon? I get something similar. It's kind of like I KNOW its me but the image doesn't look like me or the way its supposed to or something. It weirds me out too. I don't like it. Any guesses that it means something or only happens when one is stressed? Or maybe its a sign of some sort of change happening or about to happen?

I can relate. It's called Depersonalization.
Depersonalization is the sense of being detached from, or “not in” one’s body. This is what is often referred to as an “out-of-body” experience. However, some people report rather profound alienation from their bodies, a sense that they do not recognize themselves in the mirror, recognize their face, or simply feel not “connected” to their bodies in ways which are challenging to articulate (Frey, 2001; Guralnik, Schmeidler, & Simeon, 2000; Maldonado et al., 2002; Simeon et al., 2001; Spiegel & Cardeña; Steinberg, 1995). http://www.isst-d.org/education/faq-...ion.htm#depers |

For me... it is an alter that stares back at me in the mirror.. I have come to recoginze my different looks...
But then my clothes preferences are very different.. at different times... The jewlery I wear is also very different... at times... But that is just me... |

don't look in the mirrors, it is very scary, break all the mirrors or put scarves over them, or just NEVER look
