Does anyone here have children or are raising children at the current moment? How are/do you cope or function throughout the day with dependents? I finally found a psychologist that deals with Trauma. My first appointment is the 14th of this month. I am so worn out and the others are getting louder I think because I am finally acknowledging them. This site is my only outlet at the moment. Thanks!

I have raised children as a single dad. They are grown now.

Can you ask this a different way, or elaborate some? All parenting requires coping skills but I think you mean with a dissociative disorder? Not sure.

Congratulations. I hope it is a good fit.

Sorry, We are raising our 2 grandchildren, one is special needs. Yes, I mean with a Dissociative Disorder.

Well, I don't know how your dissociative issues affect you but for me (I have DID), I find that there is a silver lining in just about everything. My six year old alter LOVES children, and she has her own alter (polyfragmentation) who is two and a half years old. When I couldn't watch one more showing of The Little Mermaid, I could go to the back of the bus (our internal world - indicates that I would give up co-consciousness and be unaware of our surroundings), and she would take over.

For us, we had it much easier than most because we work so well together. We would spot each other as necessary or desired. As in the above example, I would not be aware of what was going on but if necessary, my six year old would beat on the door to get my attention and I would jump into action. I'd say that in my particular case, having a dissociative disorder actually made single parenting easier than for someone without. But we have each other's back completely and unreservedly.

It’s very hard...especially when the Others get in the way. (I call them “Others” because we are that way)...we are constantly accused of being inconsistent. I say bad and ground... then another fronts and says it ain’t that bad...then he’s let off.

I’m so scared of confusing the child.....but he’s 19 now....and knows how to play us even though he didn’t know about the multiple parts till a year ago or so.

We are also bipolar and poor kid....I know we were just awful.

But he still lives here and doesn’t hold that much of a grudge...so I guess I have a good kid at heart. Feeling like crying.... for what I don’t really know.
