i find myself dissociating in times of stress, is there any thing that can be done or do i have to ride them out? tips like grounding ,breathing do not make any difference, anyone any advice? the episodes are very disabling and i'm finding myself living in dread of having another. i have struggled with anxiety/depression for a long time, is it part of these illnesses?

Dissociation often does take place in times of stress or anxiety, though it doesn't always mean it's a dissociative disorder though. Since you say it's 'very disabling' it's surely worth a trip to the dr to discuss it, the dr might even have heard of it! (I live in the UK too, know what the drs are like lol)

Continue with the grounding, try different things and keep with it. Grounding will eventually work, and those who have DID also use it. did or anxiety?
