Hello,
I am new at posting here but I have been reading and taking advice from here for months, so first off, thank you guys for that. I was wondering if you guys could help me describe this thing that has been happening lately.

I have been dissociating most of my life, I understand what that is and what causes it. It’s this new “form” of it that’s been throwing me off.

At my psychiatrist’s office, I will dissociate, which is normal for me. It's what happens next that's concerning.

I will be sitting on the couch listening to her and I will come out of my body, sit next to myself and talk to me about what the psychiatrist is discussing.

I’m aware that I’m talking to myself and that there really isn’t anyone sitting next to me (although I can see “myself”).

I am literally discussing with myself what to say. I (the “real me”) talk about what to tell her and go back and forth with the other me, literally having a conversation.

When I’m actively talking to the doctor I can see myself, sometimes sitting next to me, sometimes floating above me. I am not speaking out loud as I've never interrupted the dr while she's been speaking but the "other me" speaks while the doctor is speaking sometimes.

I want to discuss this with my dr but I don’t know what to call it or how to describe it. I don’t feel like it’s split personalities and I don’t have any history of that (my dx are ultra rapid cycle bipo2 with dissociative amnesia). It doesn’t seem like a regular hallucination, it only happens when I dissociate.

What is going on?

we cant tell you what this is in you. only your psychiatrist can tell you that. what I can tell you is that what you posted, for me and others that I know this is not a dissociation problem in us.

you see in my native american culture we have the ability to do whats called OBE (out of Body Experience) it is a psychic phenomenon, you like getting visions and all that.

in me it also wasnt called dissociation because when I dissociated I could not literally see and interact with myself or my alters like you would your neighbor down the street or best friend. for me dissociation was and is about feelings..... feeling numb, feeling spaced out, feeling like I am sinking, feeling like I am disconnected from my hand......

for be doing believing or saying things that cant possible be real like sitting talking with am image of myself next to me on the couch is usually a medication problem or hallucination or delusion....

in a friend of mine this is called Psychosis (having delusions and hallucinations)

in others that I know its called schizohrenia, cancer and many other things too.

my suggestion is tell your psychiatrist this happened to you, they will be able to look back on your files to your session notes they took and find out what symptoms you had and have when this is happening. then they will ask you questions and based on a whole bunch of stuff be able to tell you what this is in you.

You explain very well what is happening in your post. Can you take a printout/copy of this to your p'doc to help understand things.

That seems like the most logical thing to do.. I feel myself chickening out though.

Don't be afraid! It might be very helpful to your doctor. Only that way you can improve on yourself.
