and we can't wait to see it

(we're not going to stop using this site)

it will just be nice to see a forum exclusively for did- lots of various sections for the diffrent parts

it may be rubbish, who knows- but still we want to see it and check it out

does anyone else on here read that blog?

Yes I get the e newsletter and visit the site and have posted on there before. I dont always agree with what she puts on her website and much of it contradicts what I have learned through having DID and dissociative disorders and integration, and what my own treatment providers go by. much of what Im reading/seeing on her site (in the past 5 years) has actually changed and doesnt match up with the supplemental updates but some of the information is interesting.

btw the site already had a blog section where people could post anything they wanted to. (with in reason she still deleted things, comments and activitiy she didnt want on her blog site which is understandable ) the difference is now its going to be in a forum format instead of a blog post saying this page is for you to write what ever you want.

please keep in mind that she does not have a verification process (ie she doesnt contact your doctors to verify you actually have DID) so like anywhere else on the web there will also be scammers, spammers, and those that are pretending to have DID. the forum may "say" its for people with DID but theres no guarantee that everyone who visits the site will be DID.

one of her posts made the point that scammers, spammers and fakes are not going to want to pay the cost to be on it, (which lead me to believe she will be charging for membership to the forum which means she lied on her home page saying the place is free but how about donating between 5 and 15 dollars)

my point is that I feel she was underestimating that this was going to be just for actual people with actual DID. with out contacting all her members treatment providers theres no way for her to guarantee this, scammers, spammers and those with out the disorder will pay money to look behind that locked area. Ive seen it happen before on other "locked and secure" membership style sites. including the forum that my wife and I run

"Secondly, trolls have an endless buffet of free places to go, so lots of trolls will hesitate to pay the Forum Membership fees. It will be money wasted because they will get kicked out. On that basis alone, I would hope that trolls will be less likely to enter this private forum area."

edit to add....

the verification process .... when i registered I did not and was not asked for verification that I had DID by a treatment provider and did not have to verify I was who I was through birth certificate photo ID, social security card... . (registered under a basic user name and my email account that is not under my actual name.)

I also did not have to sign any release of information forms for my treatment providers to verify I had DID.

for payment I used a bought at the local grocery store refillable debit card.

the process was just the basic same old same old register for a website forum registration.

in other words my above post stands.... the hope may be that the place will be all people with DID and no one else but theres no guarantee. just like anywhere else on the web, please be careful and use your internet safety rules.

most people forget to check out the fine print when registering or visiting a site or doing site polls. this appears at the bottom of the discussing dissociation website... great information you need to know before you register or do any surveys / donating buying and so on.. as you can see by clicking on the link its how they collect your personal information even though it says its how they protect against spam... and how its not so private/confidential as you may think if you havent read the fine print.

in other words they are collecting your personal information,like where you are, who you are and so on if you fill in any surveys, polls or forms. (unless of course like me using a generic computer ie a library or other hot spot location, a store bought disposable / refillable debit card and you have email account not associated with your real one and choose a username that is quite popular on the internet.)

You joined the site? i'm interested in it but since I no longer have a DID diagnosis I don't feel it would be right for me to.

I have this thing where I always experience a website before I do any reviews about the website. this is one of the sites i have been reading and commenting at for many years. like I said I dont always agree with whats posted but sometimes they do have some interesting things to read.

There are hundreds that will flood the site with individual accounts and questions. Just like all forums...you make a post and then other posts bury your post...

ne thing that is a bit shocking and to be aware of.... the registration requires you to promise not to post anything that will upset or trigger another person. (I got a laugh on that one considering how is everyone supposed to not post one word that may trigger or upset another. in other words you are responsible for other members happiness and you are supposed to introduce yourself) makes you wonder how many just clicked yes down through the three pages of questions just to get to the price and paid their monthly just to see nothing different than any other website forum out there.

my suggestion if you plan to register go to your grocery store and with cash by a visa debit card or master card debit card. then when you register just select visa or master card.

another suggestion if you feel you may not stick with it is using the store bought card make a pay pal account with a name that is not your regular name.

then all you have to do is every month upload the money for the website fee to the card. or buy a new card.

if you are not sure about spending a year on a pay before you see it website (kind of like buying an alcoholic drink with out knowing what it is and whats in it) then dont buy the one year membership.

Im not convinced you have actually joined it , since your experience is so much more different than mine.

i have been there also and in my opinion its a great place, and feels safe, and is very supportive. Its been very active already.
people have been kind, appropriate, and following the rules. there are already some great conversations going.

its only been open for four days and has hundreds of posts already. so it isnt the same old, same old. its just getting started. give it a chance already.

The people posting there do not WANT a public site, or a peer moderated site. They want a private place to post.The people posting seem really happy to be there.

to me, it is completely worth every penny, and a whole lot more knowing that it is private and so supportive

and please quit bashing kathys site on a public forum. thank you.

amanda louise, if you are that unhappy with kathys forum, then write to the administrators there and tell THEM the opinions you are writing in a public place. because if you are that unhappy with it, you should certainly complain to kathy about it so she can address your concerns.

Nowhere does kathy say youre responsible for other members happiness. And of course youre supposed to introduce yourself - thats normal.The forum isnt meant to be for lurkers, its meant for participants.
If you want to just go spy on the forum, then why are you there? are you actually participating?

In my opinion you have misrepresented the guidelines for kathys forum DDCF and anyone here at pyche forums can go read the guidelines for themselves.

also, it actually is really scary that you are teaching people how to be sneaky on the internet. because if they are on a legitimate website, and theyre all hidden and sneaking around, that isnt going to help people feel safe around you or on the site. if people are lying to kathy, i bet she probably doesnt want them there anyway.
kathys website and forum are built on honesty and genuine healing, not on sneaking around and acting phony.

kathy has been working with DID for over 30 years. she knows what she is doing, and her forum is not just like every other one out there, despite what some people may say.
psyche forums is great, but a private place to talk is great also.

I checked out the info about the site but didn't join.It sure seems like a lot to pay to be a member there.Even if I could afford to pay I don't think I would.

I am a paid member of a forum(not a DID or DD site) and I only had to make a one time payment for lifetime membership for extra perks.It was under $20 that I paid and it was for private areas of the forum while the rest of the site is free.

If the site was set up in that way,where a person could join and pay for different perks if they choose to or could afford it while a portion of the site was free I would consider it as long as it was a low price.

That's just me though.If people find it helpful for them and want it and can afford it then that's a good thing and I wish them well with it.

I'm unemployed and $30 A MONTH is completely out the realm of possibility.

It would be nice if they weren't so highly monetized with their blog and they could offer a $0 a month option for those who are in need, but simply can't afford $30. Or better yet, set up a pay what you can option.


I have to admit this is the first time I've seen a pay forum.

Kathys forum and blog costs her thousands of dollars a month to keep running. She does not make ANY money off it. She is not rich. She does have to actually try to make some money to pay her bills. She has had that forum for over ten years and put thousands of hours into it with her own time and own money, buying her own equipment and paying her staff all out of her own pocket. She hasnt made a dime off of it. She CANNOT
Keep giving everything away for free to everyone that thinks they deserve more free stuff
So Go ahead and hate on her if you want, and complain about the price if you want. The lady has to have some Sort of income if she is going to keep producing a blog and a forum.
She has thiusands and thousands of readers,& everyone always wants more and more free and more of her time. I am thrilled she finally asked for money and came up with a way to charge people. I have been trying to get her to do that for years now.
