Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anyone had any advice they could offer me regarding some sleep issues? A couple of years ago I got really physically sick as a result of DDNOS. I won't bore anyone with all the details but lots of sensory issues, dizziness, numbness, feelings of pressure, feeling like I'm floating away etc. (Had a bunch of medical tests, nothing physically wrong.) It got much better, because it was effectively disabling, but I get really bad issues at night. I struggle at night in general, I suffer from sleep paralysis, intense nightmares, I get distressed in my sleep and scratch at myself a lot etc etc. Lately, since my nightmares have been getting worse the psychical symptoms when I'm falling asleep have been worse, too. I'll feel like I'm floating away, a part of my body will go numb, It will feel like I can't swallow or can't breathe, and like a huge wave of sensation just hits me hard. It's so, so hard to explain, and grounding techniques aren't doing the trick. I wondered if anyone else experienced their physical dissociation symptoms more when they're trying to fall asleep? It's absolutely all encompassing, keeps me up all night, then I'm terrified all day the next day. Sleeping medication seems to make me feel worse. My therapist offers good advice, but nothing so far seems to help. Advice is really appreciated, but I also just really want to know that someone out there understands what it's like Thanks! |

in other words your treatment provider may have accidentally used diagnosis criteria that hasnt been used in over 7 years or more and because of the rules for diagnosing mental disorders around the world they could get into some major trouble if they continue to use outdated diagnostics. why because say you have a problem and you end up hospitalized or a natural disaster happens and they look at your files and see DDNOS, then they look that up and discover that disorder name is non existent, they may think you are psychotic or self diagnosing your self with a disorder name that no longer exists and the treatments for DDNOS is vastly different than what they do today for OSDD. having your treatment provider re diagnose you by todays standards (DSM 5 and the ICD 11) will ensure you get the correct treatment options and better health care. what will happen is when your treatment provider diagnoses you with OSDD you will get an actual dissociative disorder label that only your treatment provider can tell you because they have a list of OSDD disorder names. or you will be diagnosed with any number of the 30-40 new dissociative disorder labels from the ICD 11. some of them do include sleep issues. this will actually open the door for help with your sleep issues. there are also many new mental disorders in the DSM 5 and the ICD 11 that are sleep disorders. my suggestion talk with your treatment providers. they can help you with this. |
