hello, i just joined this forum out of hopes that perhaps talking to others who are also dissociating will help Mermaid to not feel alone/bring me out of this. i had a period of dissociation back in november but felt better again until about a week ago, where i have constantly felt like i am in a movie. my brain can't help but to think about huge big picture ideas about life and death, and my body begins to go numb. the physical symptoms are so bad that i start to think i have a brain tumor or something, but when i am completely distracted, whether working out very intensely or engaging with other people, i feel completely normal again. it is so relieving but only lasts so long. does anyone have anything they have done for themselves to pull themself out of feeling this way and dissociating so heavily. please help!! i am suffering a great deal atm .

A few questions.... Do you have a mental health treatment provider or medical doctor who you see periodically? if so what have they said to do about when you have your dissociation symptoms? reason I as is because I see that you are new and at the bottom of every page is a disclaimer saying we are not supposed to be a substitute for contacting your own treatment providers and that before you try anything that you find on psych central you should contact your own treatment providers Question... how did you solve the problem before? reason I ask is because in your post you stated you had dissociation problems back in november but then felt better... Dissociation is one of these trigger related things. once you know what worked before you can use the same ways again and again and again. example when I feel my dissociation problems I go to my emergency list and start working my way down it... take a walk cook something stimulating to my senses row my canoe around the lake.. pet my service animals and family pets play with my children call my treatment provider and leave a message complete with whats happening and what I tried to do to solve the problem when my treatment provider calls back be open to any and all suggestions to try. maybe you can sit down and make a list of all the things that are enjoyabble, calming to you and those things that have worked in the past for your problems. Im sorry we cant tell you what to do for you because all we do here is share what we go through and how we have fixed our problems and what our own treatment providers have done for us, and make suggestions based on what has helped ourselves and let the poster decide for their self if they want to try those things . again welcome to psych central |

hello. yes i do have my own therapist which i have seen for several years now. i also do understand that you guys can't give me a direct diagnosis or treatment suggestions–i posted looking to see what others do to help themselves in similar situations, as well as just connect with people who feel the same as i do so that i don't feel alone.
i'm not sure how i managed to get out of my episodes back in november. i was seeing my therapist weekly and noticed that i just started feeling less symptoms again. i stopped feeling so out of it, like i was watching a movie, and began feeling normal, as someone not dissociating feels. i hope if i can just keep talking about it i will soon begin to feel more grounded, and better again. |
