I listened to this podcast last night, and found it very informative, so thought some of you might enjoy it. Kathy Steele, a world renown specialist on dissociative disorders from Georgia, discusses the differences between the OSDD and DID diagnoses, how a dissociative disorder develops, and the stages of treatment for a dissociative disorder. There are so many gems to take away from this podcast!

I thought so too. I love how she has a way of taking the sensationalism out of dissociative disorders and has a way of making them understandable to others. I hope many therapists listen to her blog (given how many therapists seem to be clueless or outright disbelieving about them).

The podcast is truly impressive. She (the therapist) explains all of the terms she's discussing so effectively. My only frustration is that as I listen I dissociate. That is what happens in therapy, too. Sometimes I feel like I can't ever break out of this. But. Keep working at it.
Excellent podcast, Amyjay. Thanks for sharing it!

My T and I refer to these books quite a lot in my therapy. They are really helpful. https://www.amazon.com/Trauma-Relate...gateway&sr=8-2 It can be hard to figure out a go around when you dissociate when listening to stuff. Maybe its enough to just respect that you will be dissociating for a reason. I often get "blocked" from seeing or hearing stuff that I am just not ready to deal with yet. |

I wanted to add I dissociate a ton in therapy too. My T is doing stage 1 therapy with me and we are still struggling to keep me grounded and present within session. We know why it happens (we know what it is that I can't hold together yet) but we haven't figured out a go-around yet. We can't get into any trauma processing until we do. What can you do.
