my heart goes out to those dissociatives and otherwise who followed an internet sensation treatment provider known as Kathy Broady aka discussing dissociation. now that its public knowledge that this person and her website is not what it professes to be and not safe I want to say a few things.

A few years back when this person was being promoted / linked to by many on the internet it gave me an uncomfortable feeling.

when I first heard about her in my early years of researching my DID disorder I had found out that she had lost her texas credentials and moved out of the country. big red flag if she was so good then why run out of the country when she lost her credentials. a good therapist would find out what they did wrong correct the problem and work towards getting their credentials back, not skip county and start up new in a different place that doesnt require the same credentials. at that time there was loads of negative reviews and articles about her on the internet. I was able to thoroughly research her and her "business". what I found back then made me feel weird.

it was just this gut feeling. it was that feeling of you want to inform others but when you do you end up being the "trouble maker" I eventually stopped trying to tell people what I knew about this situation.

to me I likened this gut feeling of mine as everything I was finding out was making me feel like she was cult - ish.

she was being revered as the higher power so to speak of the dissociative world. she had a loyal "following" that went with her from business to business, from website to website from forum to forum. no one wanted to really look at her history or hear anything negative about her on forums. it was like there was this whole following similar to cults where the creator/ boss could do no wrong, and like she had this "here I can lead you through this, I know all" mentality.

on the surface the website and forum that she "runs" looks great but when I followed my gut and looked past the cult-ish following mentality and actually research what she is telling people I could understand why she keeps losing her credentials and I could understand why she had this cultish following.

the major red flag for me was that she tooted being DID was a good thing. She was teaching people to do things that didnt actually happen with real DID and therapy for DID... buy toys for their alters, have picnics, heres a story for your alters, promoting creating imaginative fantasy worlds for the alters. alters can be robots and aliens and sure they can be vulcan and other science fiction characters too. they can be anything you want them to be.

DID is not fun, is not something to play games with and not about teaching people how to go out and buy things for their alters, read stories and have picnics with them. and unless the person diagnosed with the disorder is really from the plant vulcan or built in a factory alters / parts cant be the work of fiction.

I kept asking myself if DID was this transparent and fun and make believe, why is it called a disorder, why do all approved therapy for it work towards integration.

my gut feeling was telling me she was teaching people to be her version of DID not teaching people to heal from real DID. oh she made sure she had the promote wellness posts and basic anyone can find on google information, but when you look underneath and do the research of what she was saying, lots of red flags came up for me.

my feelings about her and her site added up to my feeling like she was a cult leader promoting mental illness disguised as helping others.

Another huge red flag for me was that I noticed on her website any time anyone questioned the information she was providing that person was soon treated like a troll / an outcast and removed from her site. she even made a post about trolls after 5 members / frequent posters of her site questioned her and the information on her site and how she was promoting it was ok to be DID, lets play with your alters, heres a story, heres a teddy bear. see we have fun by being and accepting we are DID. those visiting and posting to her site got the message loud and clear ..... dont go against what she was promoting for she and her loyal followers will take you down. I registered out of curiousity with a "burner" card from the store after reading and finding many problems with her privacy policy and such. I wanted to see if inside lead people to the same misleading garbage. I never uploaded any more money to the card for her which effectively prevented her from sucking my bank account dry with pay pal, visa and master card.

when I briefly joined her private forums I was warned by many of her members not to go against anything she said or has on her website, that they knew of members that questioned her and were gone now. they pointed me to her trolls postings. the message was loud and clear from her loyal followers. agree with her, treat her as queen and lord and master or your dead in the water. I stayed on her site for a few months just to watch and see what it was like. though she tooted it being different than other forums it was the same with the same basic rules and regulations, layout a bit different but otherwise people were not getting their moneys worth.

I know I ruffled some feathers a few years back talking out against this person and this website her loyal followers were so fond of, and Im sorry for that.

I am so sorry that everyone here who thought she was ....... "The Real Deal" to help them is now finding out they have been misled. despite my gut feeling I so hoped I was wrong about her and her website and forums.
