I saw a psychologist a while back and she tested me but diagnosed me with DDNOS. Dissociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.

I heard that diagnosis is no longer used.

The psychologist said she would work with me more to see if I have D.I.D. (Dissociative Identity Disorder). But then she got medically sick with cancer and could no longer work with me.

So now I'm stuck with this DDNOS and I want answers if I do have D.I.D or not.

But I'm having trouble finding someone who treats dissociative disorders.

How did you find yours? How did you find someone to diagnose you?

I just want to know if I have D.I.D or not. So I can get help if I do.

contact your primary care physician and they will do the referral to get you set up with a new psychiatrist. here in the USA all psychiatrists do diagnostic testing. they may have some waiting lists due to covid restrictions and so forth so you need to be patient and take it one step at a time. first step contact your physician and schedule an appointment to discuss what your needs and wants are.

So sorry that you are in that situation. I wonder if a call to the American Psychological Association could provide referrals for you? Wish I knew how to help. Hopefully someone here on the Forums with helpful information will see your post and respond to it.

I didn't know that.

My psychiatrist has never tested me for anything dissociative disorder related. Even though I've complained to him about my symptoms.

I even got medical tests done to rule anything out that could cause symptoms. MRI and seizure tests and saw a neurologist. There was nothing medically wrong with my brain. So I got that checked out.

Since I already have a psychiatrist. Would I just ask him to give me an assessment for Dissociative Disorders?

I've always had to go to psychologists to get tested for mental illness.

would you just ask your existing psychiatrist, only you know whether you would or not, for me I do just ask my psychiatrist how long it has been since the last one, and whether he thinks it's time. I know my insurance pays for psychiatric evaluations every 3- 5 years. So for me my psychiatrist and I follow that same system for when to get a new one for me.

the MRI's and seizure tests - IMO perhaps it was for finding out whether seizure disorders were causing your problems, map your brains activities and brain waves under stress and stimuli, and resting, what types of brain waves your brain showed when resting, stressed or stimulated, triggered by looking at lights and color and pictures, eyes open, eyes closed and so on.
