Name

This question is for fellow DID'ers.

Do you feel like your name is your own? If not, what would your name be/do you like to be called? Is it a name all of you have agreed on, or is it just that each alter wants to be called by their own name?

I have decided, and all my alters are alright with that, our name is the name of our core. Not that the alters wouldn't have a name.. But one day.. When I feel better, as in a functioning multiple, we will take that name because it feels our "own". It feels good to be called that.

yeah, i think that is "me" too. the alters named themselves. but the body has to have a name for others... and we all hated the birth name. so the name we have now is really an alter name, but works for the whole. the others don't often like to give out their names. the legal name is still the birth name - for now. when we have the resources, that will change legally. we alll cringe when someone says it.

Everyone openly answers to the body's name when called, but all have individual names. We have a "Collective" name of Mysidia - which is a name someone came up with a long time ago, but it's only used within the system really.

When there were many alters living in my host body my real name never really seemed to fit (not even to me)...... each one of my alters had their own name and they desired to be referred to that name when I was talking about them or their issues.

But now after eight year T and a lot of integration there is just me and one other alter left and we are both comfortable with our names - my alters name is a shorter version of my real name.

Yes and no.... I dont think they all agree that it is the correct name but it is the name that belongs to the group as a whole...I think it is the correct one.. each of them does have their own names except for three of them... now oddly enough, even tho my name is the core name.... I am also considered to be mother number 2 in the group... havent quite figured that out yet...

As far as I know, while my alters have their own names, unless they are talking to my T, they all respond to my name (name i was born with). Just to themselves, some of my alters seem to refer to themselves as the wolfpack, and i often use wolfsong here on the internet. When they write stuff they use their own names too, sometimes--sometimes it's not signed and i just have to guess who wrote it.

Each of my alters has a name... and each goes by the name... has been that way since childhood... caused a great deal of confusion in school... and making dr.'s appts and such...

Mostly.. now... the all of them go by a shortened version of my birth name when in public... I hate really hate the long version of my name.... and just hearing it.. makes me... cringe.... Yazza....

yep - hearing my full name makes us cringe too.
