I think this list has been posted before...but it's really good, so I shall post it again. The books are all related to trauma, and some are about dissociation. CAUTION: Some book descriptions might be triggering:

emily, thank you so much. i've not read anything on DID...well, i read 1/2 of a book once a couple of years ago that's it.
i'm at the point where i'm having more questions again. however, i first wanted to read info so i wouldn't feel so isolated and alone in my existence. being here has stopped that feeling completely thanks again, __________________ |

When I started with the T I have now, ( I had been dx'ed by another T ) first thing he did was give me a copy of a booket called, " Can I Look Now? Recovery from Multiple Personality Disorder". It's just 33 pages long and just kind of goes over the stages you go through after being dx'ed as MPD. Sometimes I'll look back through it and say yeah that's where I am now. And I know that what I'm going through is just normal while in T. I also have one of the books on the book list. " The Multiple's Guild to Harmonized Family Living: A Healthy Alternative or Prelude to Integration". I really like this book, but it was hard for me to get a hold of. I ordered it from Barnes and Noble a few years ago and it took me a few MONTHS to get it since it is out of print. It has parts to help to find a T that's right for you. And also have chapters on working with your alters during a crisis, to help child alters express themselves. It can be some what triggering in parts. But I put the book down and come back to it when I feel better. This is a good book to have if you can find it, And it's not very long. I can't sit for very long and read anything, but I can make my way through this book when I need to.

Thank you for the list. I get my books from our library & if they're really good, I will go & buy them. I've read quite a few but am always looking at others out there.

Those links are great, Emmy. I'm glad you posted them. The hardest part is finding the books here

I've found the best way to get books is through www.amazon.com, BUT I almost never buy them new. You can look up books, then see if someone is selling a used copy. The books are often significantly cheaper. You do have to pay shipping, but I still get sooo many bargins this way. Yesterday, I bought a book for a penny, plus shipping!

That's where I buy mine if I do buy some. If you order $25 or more it's free shipping. I don't buy new myself & I'll get paperback depending on the book.

Good Morning!!!
I checked out the list/web site & I say Excellent reference! Got my own writing juices flowin' again BECAUSE: If any of the rest of you MPD?DID'ers know It REALLY helps to keep a journal going non-stop. It is (sometimes)wonderful as your own reference when something like........ YOU "phase out" to have to go back and see if someone left you a clue!!! I'm still reading old ones from 10 years ago (had a lot of ECT's) Happy Day! ((((((Dayzee9))))))) __________________ "DIVERSITY: The art of thinking independently together" ---MS Forbes |

Journaling is good for us. I've kept a diary since 1990. It's hard to go thru it by myself so sometimes I get pieces & go thru it w/ my T. I just don't remember most of what happened or that I was 'that' bad off.
But it is nice looking back. Love, RhysMadison |

Another idea as far as reading material goes. I have a book that I discovered a couple of years ago. I still read it over and over because after 18 years of therapy as a MPD/DID, it reminds me of where I came from...and how far I've come now! VERY IMPORTANT NOTE RE; BOOK!!! It may be a very big trigger for some!!!!
It's called, "Multiple Personality Disorder from the Inside Out" edited by: Barry M. Cohen, Esther Giller, Lynn W. Copyright 1991 Published thru Sidran Press Check it out and while you read; keep a journal of favorites; questions to ask your T about (or this forum) ETC....Penny for your edification..... Thank you for the references Emily. I don't think I can read about anything to do with DID right now but perhaps in the future. Kind of keep thinking, the less I know, the better. Because then I can just not have it...
I journal too but I never read it ever. I just pass it over to t each week and she reads it for me and decides if there is something we need to talk about. __________________ |

A book that I read that I really enjoed was First Person Slef by Cameron West. This may be a trigger. It was a good book though
