Today I was running on the treadmill and I noticed that I have a tooth with a toothache. I remembered going to the dentist and the dentist saying that all of my teeth are fine, so I thought it must be nothing. Then I suddenly wasn't sure if I've been to the dentist recently at all - in fact, I think I'm due to go for my 6 month check up. So I thought that it must have been a dream about the dentist saying my teeth look fine.

I got off the treadmill and told my husband that my tooth hurt and that I had a dream that I went to the dentist and he said my tooth is okay, but I just realized that it was a dream so I guess I need to go to the dentist.

H looked at me all quizzically and said "Are you okay? It seem like lately you haven't been able to tell the difference between dreams and reality".

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! He's right. I feel crazy.

Doesn't the dentist send you a card when it is time for your next appointment?

'Course you don't have to wait...

a. even if the dentist did say your teeth are fine, if it is hurting you, go anyway.
b. i think the more we start sorting out things, the more we realize what we are missing... which is alarming for a while. but one does get used to it.
c. you're not crazy - DID is a coping mechanism and you are very creative or you'd not have developed it.

hope that helps!!!! dreams vs. reality kiya

Earthmama,

I call that getting Fuzzy - when the real stuff and dreams and my alters all get mixed up together. It can be very strange and uncomfortable, especially when people look at you funny!

I do think it is good that you recognized what is going on - that sounds like progress to me. I've noticed that a lot of progress is uncomfortable. Phooey! wish progress was a picnic!!! =)

Be sure to take care of yourself - I must say that is ironic that I just said that to you. I am so terrified of the dentist that I take pretty lousy care of my own teeth. If I could just go to sleep while they worked.. My first dentist was one of my abusers, so I'm scared of em all.

I can't stand going to the dentist, but I hope you will go soon. dreams vs. reality I have had similar experiences where dreams have been so real that I had to really think whether or not they happened and have even asked those around me. They know I'm off most of the time though so they take it in stride and answer me lol.

Awareness is good and allows things to change, but I understand how hard it can be at times. Take good care.

Earthmama,

Your not alone, I've been having that happening too. I don't know if it is from a dream or it really happened.

Oh my gosh - this is the story of my life. I suspect that sometimes I wash my hair 3 or 4 times because I can't stay present long enough to remember if I washed it.

There is a chance that I'm really, REALLY clean!

Earthmama and Kiya,

Does your hair squeek when you run it through your thumb and forefinger - maybe that can be your way to test if it is clean....somewhere along the way I learned that my hair was clean if it squeeked when I did that....is that weird??? If so, I'm not surprised, but my hobby is trying to be more thrifty and so I do all sorts of slightly weird things trying to not use more than needed of things like water and cleaners, etc.

I really enjoy some great websites and forums for that. If anyone is interested...email me and I'll tell you a few of the thousands. I don't bring in money, except for about 300 a month in disability and so I try hard to preserve the money we have...mostly!!! =)

Hugs,

Leslie and the adult pixies
