Ok I just wonder about this because I have DID and I have a few friends who do too and it seems that we get sick really easily. I get bronchitis at least 3-4 times a year if not more. Since April of 2007 I have had 3 surgeries and 2 were major the other was just another knee surgery it was knee surgery number 5. Anyway, I have a lot of other problems e.g. asthma, allergies, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Degenerative disc disease, bulging discs, pinched nerves, carple tunnel, migraines, GERD, IBS, I had to have emergency srgery to have my gallbladder removed the doc said it was gangrene plus a lot more stuff they did the surgery at 7 pm on a Sunday night (April 15, 2007). Exactly one year to the date that I had that surgery I found out that I had a tumor on my uterus I had that removed on June 23, 2008. In between I had my knee surgery on September 24, 2007 (5 days before my birthday). Oh and in February of 2008 I found that I had mono (how I got it I don't know) the doctor said that it was really unusual for a 34 year old to get mono they have usually developed the antibodies for it by then but not me. Does anyone else with DID find that they have a lot of ailments? I sometimes feel like a walking germ LOL can anyone else relate?

Yes, I've never known anyone older than 30 as a multiple who had not had a large number of ailments and/or accidents. I attribute much of it to the constant stress, heartache and hiding of childhood. I was tired by the time I was 10 and began to have headaches and gut troubles in my teens, ran through a plate glass door, had total of at least 6 surgeries....blah, blah and blah!

Many doctors slapped a psychosomatic label in my illnesses while forgetting to explain what that meant really. It really meant that the stress in my mind wore me down until I got physical problems as well as psych problems - NOT that it was "all in my head" like I was some freak who couldn't handle the tough parts of life without getting sick over it.

If those same doctors had a childhood like mine they probably would have spent their life going to the doctor, not studying to be one. The few physicians I've met who had genuine compassion were treasures and I appreciate them. Now that I know the truth about my past and my frailties I try to stay off my own back as often as possible. The weight is a real killer!

I do not believe that we (people w/ DID) suffer from ailments any more other people.... but rather that each one of our alters may suffer from a different ailment than our other alters, therefore, it seems that we the physical body is loaded down with ailments.... just look over my profile and you see all that we suffer from (and) look in the DID section as I just started a thread about this topic.

other thread: Alters & Medical/Health Issues.

Hi Rhapsody,
Yesterday, I left a message at the thread on this topic based on your post. It's kind of hidden in the bottom under your name. I should have, perhaps, sent you a PM. Don't feel obligated to respond though.
Thanks
