An altar is another, separate, part of one's personality that comes to the surface, and it is as if all of sudden you are another person. Do you feel you may have altars in your BPD personality?

most people with bpd do not have alters per se. They are usually fragments at best, with most of their memories being intact, just scattered throughout and not following a logical path. There may be a bit of dissociation, but that is more like daydreaming (which everyone does) and is not because of a true alter. BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) is not the same as DID (formerly Multiple Personality Disorder). You might want to read up on BPD--there are good resources and books listed in the sticky notes--one of my favorite ones on BPD is "Sometimes I Act Crazy" by Jerome J. Kreisman MD, and Hal Straus. Another good BPD book is Get Me Out Of Here by rachel reiland. It is a book in which she tells her story about her recovery from BPD. Very intense book, take it slow. If you have a SO, you might want that person to read Stop Walking On Eggshells. Very good for the SO of a BPD person.

Shocker,
when a very small child experiences overwhelming pain and or fear he/she may split off part of what they experience - by creating a part to themselves to handle some of the fear/pain/misery that is too much for the little one to survive in his/her own. This happens mostly with people who have dissociative identity disorder, rather than borderline personality disorder. could you have gotten something mixed up in what you were told about your diagnosis?? maybe you can get your T to go back and explain again and clear stuff up. i wish you well. leslie and her pixies
