I have just recently moved out of my home because I am seeking a divorce from my husband. He has peripheral neuropathy which makes being on his feet for a long time difficult. We have one car and I am the only one who works. He is verbally abusive which is still hard for me to admit, accept, and say.

I've been staying with a friend and obviously I have the car. I sent him a message on Thursday to tell him that if he needs to go anywhere to call a cab and that I am leaving $500 in the checking account for his expenses. His reply to that was, "No."

He sent me a message today saying, "Please bring the car. I need food." I am sure that there is enough food in the house but he is probably out of the basics like milk. This is pulling at my heart strings but I just don't know what to do. My friends say that he can figure it out for himself. I am also concerned about doing the wrong thing until I get some advice from the women's shelter on Monday.

Any suggestions or thoughts? BTW, I live in FL, if it makes any difference.

you have two choices. call him back and let him know there is money in the account and to take a cab to the store and buy himself groceries, he is on his own now..which is probably what the shelter is going to tell you and the best choice

or

ask him what he needs, go buy it for him and drop it off. that will ease your conscious.

I have decided to do nothing until he sends another text. I will just reply with, "You need to call a cab. I will leave $500 in the checking account for your expenses." That's the best I can do for now. I am just very used to taking care of him.

Having neuropathy is no excuse for verbally abusing you. Take care of yourself. He may want to continue to USE you. Not knowing more about your situation.....well, I came out of a verbally abusive marriage. How I wish I had left sooner! Its your turn now. Do what is right for you.

If it was me, I'd let him start taking care of himself for once!

You need to make a clean break, it's the only way to truly get out of an abusive relationship. He is an adult, he can take care of himself.

I'm on vacation until Sunday. Trying my best to keep removed from the situation at home. The last contact I had from him was, "Please don't do this." I am determined to go through with the divorce though. It is going to be tough.

After the begging will typically come the angry outbursts. Hearing those will help solidify you, internally
