you dont state who has the mental disabilities, you or your daughter.
if it is you, then taking age appropriate parenting classes and getting a parental capacity evaluation to demonstrate that you are capable to meeting your daughters needs are appropriate steps to take. if it is your daughter, then taking age appropriate parenting classes specific to children with mental disabilities and really educating yourself to her particular disability would be the way to go. |

Hello there,
I am a divorced mother of 2 girls. My ex-hub and I share custody, but, he is seen as the primary custodian (I'm secondary). It was very difficult and painful for me to recognize and agree that I am not strong enough to be the primary. I think that is a pain that I will always carry inside of me. But, I also know that I made the right decision for my daughters and myself. That is the truth. I do have my girls every weekend though, many holidays, and school vacations are mostly spent with me. And I bring a different aspect of life to their worlds ~art, physical and emotional. We go to the YMCA every week and exercise, the library and read lots of books, ice skating lessons weekly, art projects at home, etc. My daughters have also learned about disabled people during this experience, and they can see that there are many different types...but, we're all people first. My bf is in a wheelchair, so my girls just love to zoom around in his extra chairs. A great experience for everyone...really! Try not to worry too much. Always do the best that you can. Very best wishes to you and your family! ![]()

Thank you both, they did the functional testing ( on me) and too much panic and panic attacks. I will have to enjoy him the most I can while I have him.
