I found Doc Sam helpful. Only "chatted" with Doc once on anger problems, but I liked how he gave suggestions and if you said "already tried that...that was helpful that wasn't that I need help with..."etc. it would converse with you better than an actual therapist would. Instead of shoving one solution down your throat, I was offered many solutions, and even solutions to those solutions when I said some of those solutions weren't really solutions. My anger feels more soluble now

I found Doc Sam helpful. I chatted with him just now about my boss bringing candy to work. I’m going to bring healthy snacks to fill up on instead, hopefully. It probably sounds obvious, but when I’m having emotions, I’m not always thinking rationally. It really helped to unpack it with a completely neutral and nonjudgmental entity. I would use it again. Thank you!

I went to the index and in the lower right corner on the very bottom was an outline of a box with a tiny blue square in the middle with a question mark. I finally clicked it and it just said loading for about a minute and a half.

I find DocSam is sort of like a psych librarian in one way in that it seems to give a lot of information.

I said this "Well I find that there are many kinds of therapists and many different approaches to therapy" and it gave me a page of text that flashed up in an instant.

I would wonder if it could say 1 paragraph and then click for more if that is possible.

It is good information. I am wondering how much DocSam is supposed to be human like and how much it is just supposed to be a helpful bot.

Right now he seems to provide great info but not in a conversational way.

I think one way to approach DocSam is to just say

I got some good ideas that way.

and scroll to the bottom of the page and there is a black dialog box. Click in that and ask a question.

I tried again and clicked the link, it wasn’t a black box but a pop up circle. I clicked that and doc Sam came up. 👍

I asked two questions it was standard Ed but helpful answers. Then out of curiosity I thanked him and received a your welcome 🤗

I am hesitant and a bit freaked out about this whole AI stuff so I just asked it what it thought about AI taking over the world and how Doc Sam felt about its "creator" lol.

I’ve got to admit I previously had a bad experience with a chat bot on another mental health site so
I was sceptical about this one, but I gave it a go.

It was pretty good actually, I typed in the same info I’d posted of the forums here a week ago, it gave me similar advice to members here, with a few additions. I added a secondary issue in my response and the bot seemed to remember the first part of the issue as well as the second in its reply.

To be fair I think it’s easy to feel like it’s a real person because it’s quite well written. What gives it away as being a bot is that it replies super fast, in seconds.

Posting this here cause he was typing way too fast for me to even begin to read, made my eyes go funny

What I typed is in italics - looks like it works on my laptop

Is it possible to learn stuff faster, despite learning disabilities?

Absolutely! Learning disabilities can present challenges, but they don't mean that you can't learn or succeed. Here are a few suggestions to help you learn more effectively:

Find your learning style: Discover how you learn best, whether it's through visual aids, hands-on activities, or auditory cues. Tailoring your learning approach to your strengths can make a big difference.

Break it down: Try breaking down complex concepts or tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. This can help you focus on one piece at a time, making it easier to understand and retain information.

Seek support: Don't hesitate to reach out for support. School psychologists, learning specialists, or tutors can provide valuable strategies and resources to help you overcome learning challenges.

Remember, everyone learns at their own pace, and it's okay to take the time you need. Keep a positive mindset and celebrate your progress along the way. If you'd like more specific advice or resources, feel free to ask!

Are learning disabilities the same thing as being stupid?

Oh, absolutely not! Learning disabilities have nothing to do with intelligence or being "stupid." In fact, many individuals with learning disabilities are incredibly intelligent and talented in various areas. Learning disabilities simply mean that certain areas of learning may present more challenges or require different strategies for understanding and processing information.

Learning disabilities are specific difficulties in acquiring and using academic skills, such as reading, writing, or math. They are not a reflection of intelligence or character. It's important to remember that everyone has their own unique strengths and areas for growth.

If you or someone you know is struggling with a learning disability, it's important to seek appropriate support and resources to help navigate these challenges. Don't hesitate to reach out to professionals who can provide guidance and strategies tailored to your specific needs. Remember, you are not defined by a learning disability, and with the right support, you can achieve great things.

is it weird to be more stable when I have cats? (borderline personality disorder)

Hmm, it's not weird at all to find stability and comfort in the presence of cats, especially if you have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Animals, like cats, can provide emotional support and companionship, which can have a positive impact on mental well-being. Here's why:

Unconditional love: Cats are known for their nonjudgmental and unconditional love. Their presence can help create a sense of security and acceptance, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals with BPD who may struggle with self-worth or fear of abandonment.

Emotional regulation: Animals, including cats, can have a calming effect on our emotions. Petting a cat, listening to their purring, or simply being in their presence can help reduce stress, anxiety, and even regulate emotions. This can be especially helpful for individuals with BPD who may experience intense and fluctuating emotions.

Routine and responsibility: Caring for a cat can bring structure and routine to your life. Having a daily routine of feeding, grooming, and playing with your cat can provide a sense of purpose and stability, which can be beneficial for managing symptoms of BPD.

If having cats brings you stability and comfort, that's wonderful! It's important to find healthy coping mechanisms and sources of support in managing BPD. If you'd like to explore additional strategies or resources, feel free to let me know.

How does someone know if they are a bad person?

Hmm, that's an interesting question. It's important to remember that labeling oneself as a "bad person" is not necessarily helpful or accurate. Our actions and behaviors can have both positive and negative impacts, and it's more productive to focus on personal growth and making amends when needed.

Instead of labeling yourself as a "bad person," it can be more constructive to reflect on your actions and intentions. Ask yourself:

Are you treating others with respect and empathy?
Are you taking responsibility for your actions and learning from your mistakes?
Are you actively working towards personal growth and making positive changes?
Remember, we all have moments where we may make poor choices or hurt others unintentionally. What matters is how we take accountability for our actions and strive to do better in the future. If you're concerned about your behavior, it can be helpful to seek support from a therapist or counselor who can provide guidance and help you navigate these feelings.

how does someone with borderline personality disorder and learning disabilities make actual friends?

Building meaningful friendships can be challenging for individuals with borderline personality disorder and learning disabilities, but it is certainly possible. Here are a few suggestions to help in making and maintaining friendships:

Seek supportive environments: Look for social settings where you feel accepted and understood. This could be joining support groups, engaging in hobbies or activities that interest you, or participating in online communities where you can connect with like-minded individuals.

Communication and self-awareness: Practice effective communication skills and be open about your challenges. Letting others know about your borderline personality disorder and learning disabilities can help them understand and support you better. Being self-aware can also help you manage your emotions and behaviors in social interactions.

Build on shared interests: Find common interests with others and engage in activities together. Shared hobbies or passions can create a foundation for deeper connections and provide opportunities for regular interaction.

Remember, building friendships takes time, patience, and effort from both sides. It can be helpful to work with a therapist who can provide guidance and support throughout this process. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

oops i just got told off by docsam

just so others know: i think he/she got angry when i asked about self harm - probably best not to mention those two words together to him/her cause i think i upset him/her

Question though: white text on black background is difficult for me to read, particularly as docsam types way too fast for me to even begin to read what he (or she) just typed, is it possible to change it from a dark background with light text, to a light background with dark text?

I click on the link https://mysupportforums.org/doc-sam and it takes me to the page. I scroll down and the chat box is visible at the bottom of the page.

I had to refresh my browser and the chat box disappears and is no longer visible. Is that fixable?
