I have been diagnosed with an eating disorder not otherwise specified and have lost a significant amount of weight. I am currently working with my therapist although at the moment I don't feel like I am making much progress. I am in one of my cycles of being self-destructive. So my question is what do you say when people tell you...
"You look anorexic."
"You have lost a lot of weight, what is going on?"
General questions like that. They make me want to run and hide. I know people are concerned but what do you say. I don't want to come out and say, "Oh, yeah I've got an eating disorder."

Maybe just say you've been ill?

Thanks silver_queen!

That would work in some situations, I guess I should have been more specific. What about coworkers and friends who I see fairly often?

You can always say, "why do you ask?"

"I've been pretty sick, I'm working on getting it back up. Thanks though."

Or my favorite,

"F*c*u*c*k off."

>_>

I guess if it's out of concern, be nice. If it's just being gossipy and not minding their own business, don't bother.

And keep plugging in at it, and it gets easier. I'm a firm believer in that, you know? How long have you been with the T about it? If it's been for 1.5 or 2.5 months or so, then ask if you could try another method. And by the way it was worded, is it a rough patch now, but previously it was working out with the therapy thing?

*hug* I'm scatterbrained today and don't make sense, but I hope you get cheered up somehow. ^__^ Anything I can do to provide comic relief I'll do it, kay? *hug*

Depends, but mostly I've said, "I've been sick" and left it at that. If pressed, I will say, "You know, I'm just so relieved that I'm getting better now, and I don't want to talk about it."

So far, only one person has pressed beyond that point. And that person is just like that. Otherwise, I've gotten some frightened looks, but that's it.

Hope that helps.

And look into support groups, they help a lot.

My favorite response is that "I haven't been feeling well lately but it's nothing serious".

Fortunately or unfortunately, most of my contacts are people that know me well & won't ask because they don't want to bring up the past or know what has been going on this time so don't make the comments.
