Although I don't have an eating disorder, I have colitis, a condition in which I cannot digest most foods. I am losing hair as a result of malnutrition. My hair is very thick so I'm not afraid of it becoming too thin (yet), but there is hair everywhere and it's getting harder and harder to manage it. I spend almost as much time cleaning me and the bathroom of hair, (and I never get it all), as I do showering. Do you know of a special kind of shampoo that might help? Does it make "dandruff" worse? The more hair I lose, the worse it gets, and with black hair, it's embarrassing. Do you have any cleaning tips... Anything that can make it a little easier?

I hope I have not offended anyone by posting here. I am literally down to 3 foods I can eat, and it looks like I am not going to be able to even eat those.

Thanks,

January

I have a problem with thinning hair, even developing a slight bald spot on top.
My mom has the same thing, but yet her mom has full, fine hair. I've been to docs and they all say its heredity Hair Loss Advice Needed
No matter what shampoo, it doesn't stop, but what helped was when my thyroid tests showed hypothyroidism (I kept saying it, but tests always use to say, "within normal limits", yeah right for who, grrrrrrrrr!
The thyroid med seemed to slow the hair loss rate, but now I have same symptoms and doc won't try increasing my med. claims the new tests show "normal", grrrrrrrr!
I read even if tests show within normal range, one, as an individual can still not be normal range for them, everyone's bod is individual. Damn, GP!!!!!!!!
Well I wish there was some product/shampoo that can stop this, but not even Rogaine (shampoo/treatment) is reliable, I heard if you stop using it, the hair falls out again Hair Loss Advice Needed
I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't.
Have you had any thyroid function tests lately? Maybe there is an underlying abnormal functioning going on, and if so, thyroid meds may help.
Please take care, meanwhile if you hear of something that can help us with thinning hair PLEASE let us know, okay?
Lots of luck, I hope you feel better soon.

Sincerely,
DE

Hi Jan,

I am having the same problem...went through it the last time I had massive weight loss & malnutrition, & now the same thing is happening again. Monthly I have to pull hands full of hair out of the shower drain & that doesn't include all the hair covering the floor. Monthly, I end up pulling hands full of hair out of the shower drain....I need to figure out a way of glueing in back on.....lol.

No matter what I use on my hair or how much I condition it, it looks like straw sticking up all over the place & not like spikes either. I have come to the point that I found some nice hair pieces that allow me to pull my hair back into a pony tail & clip them on over that. They match my hair so well most people don't know it & makes me look so much better...they aren't wigs, just pieces that have clips or combs on them. I am getting a couple I can just wrap around the pony tail so I can use them with my riding helmet. That is really getting desparate but what ever works.

My hair has always looked kinda lousy even when my nutrition was ok because it is curly or frizzy, but never managable...always has been a nightmere to deal with so actually glad I found a way to cheat with it.

If you ever find a solution, please share it...I'm sure there are many with the same problem,
Debbie
