Hello all, just a quick question, does having an eating disorder affect you're blood pressure? You see last year my consultant sent a letter to my GP saying I have quite low blood pressure. In august it was still low and by december whenever I stood up I was close to fainting and blacking out. I went to the GP who again said my blood pressure is quite low and diagnosed me with Postural hypertension and said the low blood pressure doesn't help.
I have never experienced this before last year and never had low blood pressure before either. However last year was when my eating got out of hand and I spent most of the year starving myself. I haven't been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa yet as my therapist is saying it is due to my PTSD so I'm not receiving any help. So does anyone else experience this? I also get chest pains that seem to never have a cause and the doctors always say everything is fine. I am not under weight but have spent most of my life trying to balance my electrolytes (due to illness). So has anyone experienced this? With apparently no cause? Thanks in advance for the reply's Autumn Last edited by Christina86; Jan 20, 2012 at 10:31 PM.. Reason: added trigger icon |

Perna thank you for that article it was quite informative. You see my only issue is that I went to my GP because I always felt faint. My blood pressure was tested and I was told I had low blood pressure and I was sent to have bloods done to see if I was anaemic, I wasn't anaemic and the doctors haven't even bothered to contact me or anything (I had to call to find out my results).
So it is quite hard to take this serious when my own Doctors don't take it serious. |

Blood pressure can be different laying down, sitting and standing to. Not something to mess with.

Your bp can be affected by your wright. I have very low bp to begin with but as my weight drops it gets extremely low as does my bloodsugar. I had a frightening experience yesterday where my bp and bloodsugar went so low I became very sleepy and disoriented and quickly lost consciousness. I was rushed to the er and mr sugars were 22 and bp was only 50/27 due to restriction . So yes you want to be very carefully if you have bp issues. I try to be careful of both and put something in my system each day like boost to keep stable. Don't want tis to be triggering just informative .
