This is a short post, even though I could say a lot of things. I am sick of this society treating fat people like crap. No, I don't think everything the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance stands for, believes in and fights for is right, but I do believe in accepting fat people. I believe in encouraging weight loss and promoting good health, but I don't think fat people should be discriminated against, unless it would hurt others (for instance, if a person can't perform certain duties because of his weight, he shouldn't be hired for a job that requires those duties be done). If someone doesn't want to fight being fat, and is okay with his/her body, then accept him/her!

I'm already going into a rant, but let me just get into why I'm upset: I'm watching The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Every night, he does at least one fat joke. It niggles at me, not because I'm anti-fat jokes (or any other jokes), but because he does them every night. Well, tonight, he mentioned a man who is the heaviest man in the world or something--I wasn't paying full attention at that point--and he showed a picture of this man, who's 1200 pounds! Not just once, but twice!!! Of course, the audience was appalled. The second time, he made a joke. In the photo, the man had a computer near him. Jay said something like, "See the keyboard? See the computer? When you guys are talking to a hot chick online, this is who you're really talking to." I'm just disgusted . This guy has an addiction, and he goes through hell as a fat person. It isn't easy to change. I want to change, and so do most fat people, but most fat people have a lot of difficulty changing how and what they eat, and starting exercising, and changing their whole lifestyle. Most people who ridicule fat people have never been fat and can't understand why it isn't as simple as it sounds. I'm just so mad at Jay Leno for putting this man's photo on national TV and ridiculing him! It's Okay to Make Fun of Fat People

I personally find it odd that a man as odd looking at Jay Leno makes fun of anyone. I agree with you though, it's like making fun of a person whos' extremely underweight(which they would never do) or someone with another addiction.
Jay's Chin probably weights at least 100 lbs so I don't know what he's talking about. It's Okay to Make Fun of Fat People

Jay Leno probably thinks it's OK to make fat jokes because he's overweight too.

In the UK, we have Irish people telling Irish jokes, Scots telling Scots jokes, Aussies telling Oz jokes, etc etc.

It seems that people feel it's acceptable and quite politically correct to make fun of a group to which they belong.

Does this make sense? Or have I read the psychology altogether wrongly?

some of the comments above are funny lol...chin, some are seriously right on...
I think unfortunately when it comes to tv certain people will do and say anything, no matter how shocking (which is probably the whole point)...to get the ratings.
I think when it comes down to it Jay feels he has to shock and insult to keep his show on the air.

Yes, Jay is overweight, but not that much.

Later, I was watching Geraldo At Large (well, it was on in the background), and a reporter did a story about this same guy, and when they cut to Geraldo for the next story, before he began, he commented, "That's a big guy."
